| So my service provider just called me to ask if I would please cut back on my bandwidth usage . Apparently last month when they offered me ( for $7 more a month ) increased bandwidth speed , they didnt relize I WOULD USE IT !!!!!My usage spiked from 150+gb for march to 500+gb for April . So the bandwidth police ( Comcast security systems ) called and told me im in the top 1/10th of the top 1% of users in my area ![]() Gotta love it , they give you power , then ask you NOT to use it LOL Ok so I'll turn off the 100+ up/dowm loads I have going ATM ![]() | ||

| Comcast ftl man, they're friggen con artists. When I moved to New Hampshire, they wanted to charge me a professional installation because I wasn't a current comcast customer. I was like hey thanks, but Verizon FiOS is my area and its cheaper with free installation. Pwn3d! | ||

| I have news for the mathematical geniuses who work at Comcast. SOMEBODY is ALWAYS going to be in the top 1/10 of 1%. If fact if you have 1,000,000 subscribers I will GUARANTEE you with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that EXACTLY 1000 of your users will be in the top 1/10 of 1%. ALWAYS. EVERY MONTH. FOREVER. NO QUESTION. Not to hijack but I've been going round and round with AT&T on billing. They can't figure out what I want which is less service cause I'm unemployed. So She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed says "Switch to Comcast." But given what I've heard about Comcast, they're just a random failure. At least AT&T has a procedure for failing borne of failing for 100 years [or at least since the breakup]. Comcast - Epic Fail. -MF | ||

| Gotta love the UK, even with the mostly sh1t service we get from Virgin Media (Beardie Bransons bunch), they have never kicked up a fuss over the 600Gb+ d/l 150Gb+ u/l per month we chew up in our house (4 lazy students + 20Mbit cable = new harddrives every couple of months) which is pretty cool I think ![]() All we get is a nice "Please refrain from heavy downloading during peak times" which is simple as we only download/upload over night. Mace, I dare you to shoot for 1Tb total traffic this month. See what they say then ![]() EDIT: Wait, I super triple beaver dare you to do it. | ||

| Well now here's an update that shuold give you a chuckle .............. I call back to CSS ( Comcast security services ) and ask them " IF my usage is excessive, then what is an accpetable up and down amount so I dont get red flagged?" yes basicly just like in the posted link by post_break, they told me they couldnt give me that info and that thier system is based on a "Bell Curve" ?!?!?! and there's NO set number .... OK WTF kinda answer is that ?!?!?! So me bieng me, I fight back and forth with the guy telling him that I'll be "GOOD AN GOD DAMNED" if hes gonna take my money and tell me im abusing comcasts bandwidth, yet not give me a friggin number to watch for on my bandwidth monitor!! well , I got nowhere....... He wouldnt even put me on with his supervisor and told me that this was a **spelling* "Non-Escalatible Issue" and all i needed to do was to bring my usage into acceptable range WTF is THE RANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() So after I finally hung up with them I call comcast customer support , get a nice lady on the other end and tell her I'm a tad pissed that I pay for the BEST home service they offer and nobody can give me a simple number for "Avarage" use ............ here's the best part - after 5min on hold , She comes back to the phone and tells me point blank " 250gb a month is the avarage, if you stay close to that You'll be fine" OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A simple customer support rep. gives me an actual number that SECURITY SERVICES cant and wont!!! ![]() YO COMCAST SECURITY - KISS MY EXCESSIVE BANDWIDTH USING A$$ and a special - GO TO HELL!! to STEPHEN ( the guy who first called me and said I was flagged ) | ||

| I got an answer like that from Optimum Online when I was a customer and they throttled my connection. I love FIOS now. I just checked my router and here are the stats: Uptime: 377hrs 58min (approximately 15days 17hrs) BYTES Recvd: 2,718,167,509 BYTES Sent: 787,244,043 Now if I can still read that means in the past 15+ days I downloaded 2.71GB of traffic and sent out 787MB. At that rate that is almost 5GB a month down and 1.5GB a month up. Comcast would kick me off their network. Verizon could care less. | ||

| Do NOT do what dex says (sorry bro) it will only make things much worse. They have it in your contract that they can cancel your service for that and well, if you use your phone through them that might go as well. Not a wise idea to test your luck with them. | ||

1.5gb a month!!!!!!!! DN , when I say 500+ , thats 500+ GB a month , you got a ways to go to hit my mark hehePB - As much as I'd love to, I'm not gonna , I was just really pissed about the whole " your exceding you useage , but we cant tell you how much that is " We dont have FIOS in my area yet , and AT&T high speed is utter crap out here as are the rest of the phone line / DSL companies If they werent so slow , I'd have switched allready | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| But are you talking bits or bytes. I'm talkin BYTES. So the 5GB a month download is 40gb (though still a far cry from what you are using). Mine would be more but I cap my torrent uploads during the day 'cause I work from home and it slows down the Verizon router too much if I leave it full blast. And I turn them off completely from 10pm to 2am when I am gaming. | ||

| I can see why Comcast would bitch about excessive bandwidth, cable is a shared bandwidth platform, meaning the more **** you DL the less bandwidth everyone else has, but I would like to know WTF you are downloading that takes up 500gb in a month, I have twice that total storage on my WHOLE network and have only used 1/3 of it. | ||

| Well you're looking at 25GB for 1080P feature film. Could add up very quickly. I work for my ISP currently and I talked to the sys admin recently. He talked to the guy who pulled 300GB in one week. When asked what he was downloading he said porn. I guess the system admin knew him personally, he asked "when are you going to watch all that porn?" he said "probably never, I have only had time to watch 2 so far". My ISP doesnt care if you max your connection out day in and day out, they just worry about the business customers. If you interrupt their connection you will have someone breathing down your neck big time. | ||

| My best friend ( and co-worker in our DJ business) works for comcast. He's a business support specialist ( a fancy way to call him a business support rep) and from what he can see, not one business account that uses much more bandwidth than any account he's seen as flagged, gets a call. So I said what does it take to get flagged, well since he's in business he said he'd have to ask his friend who works in home service support. They said that 250GB to 300GB is about as high as they let it go before a flag hits. Also it depends on how big your area is and how many customers are connected to it. The business services though (which I just got a flyer for new business customer, including home users switching to business, 29.99 for the first six months) it runs around 10$ more a month that my average home 8MB line. The 16MBthough is only like $15 dollars more, for business. Since business has unlimited bandwidth and its $15, Right after I get some money for the internet from my new tenant, I'll be switching to business and again I'll start seeding all my linux distros, 24/7. I was flagged in February for using estimated 350GB they didn't have a solid number so I went by download and upload stats from utorrent. I would switch to business personally if I were you HTRN. If you already started paying 7$ more for better speed i'm guessing, it should only be within $20 for faster speeds. And to keep things clear my 8MB home service is 42.95 + 5 for the modem rental. 46.95/month The Business 16MB line is free upgrade to GiB router/Modem and is 61.90/month. I live in a very rural area about 40-50 houses on my 5 mile road and most of them are in between me and the nearest highway (I'm on the 1 mile towards one end) EDIT: As much as this may not be guaranteed true (came from the mouth of comcast) A quick call to comcast's business service line, the business rep that I talked to assured me that business line have NO usage limits. Unfortunatly they are only open from 8-6(no time zone was stated) and I couldn't get random local prices for different areas (I was going to go over downtown Pittsburgh vs a farm area I know of around here. | I was on Optimum I got flagged back in 04 for running a CS:S Server. After that never got flagged on them and recently switched to Fios 20/20 package. I am sure I have downloaded upwards of 500 a month on Optimum and never had any issues. Havent tested the Fios yet... | ||
