No, I hadn't .. & wish I hadn't

Whether it was ETA (unlikely, given that's an attack on a scale much bigger than they're considered capable of), Al-Qaida (possible, given the simultaneous attacks), an unholy alliance of the two, or someone else, I hope they're tracked down brought to justice

My heart goes out to everyone involved, Spain is great country & all the Spaniards I've met have been great people.

It ABSOLUTELY does not matter what country that happened in. There is no justification for that. PERIOD.

I am not meaning to imply that JE is making that kind of a distinction, but terrorists are the most vile, basest of cowards and there can be no quarter granted to them no matter where they strike.

Exclamation Interesting ....

how Spain immediately blames Basque Separatists, the U.S. immediately blames Al-Quida [sp?]. I'm sure if there was [for whatever reason] a Russian tourist group on board that Pravda is blaming Chechen rebels. The Italians the Red Brigade. IRA anyone?

Re-read 1984 people. The government is manipulating you just like the gov'ment in 1984 declared they weren't at war with Nation X but with Nation Y. And that any signs that said 'we' were at war with Nation X was just a Nation Y propaganda-trick.

I am not a complete paranoid. I believe there was a train. I believe there was a bombing. I believe people died.

I do NOT believe this is a hoax perpetuated by various government interests. I do not believe the bomb was planted by right-wing reactionaries to spur government action. I do not believe the CIA did this to give us an excuse for further action in the Middle East.

Face it, under GWB we no longer need an excuse to do any dam thing - we'll just make it up and later blame 'bad intelligence'. In fact we see the CIA going from a do-something-badly organization [see also Bay of Pigs] to a do-nothing-just-take-the-blame-its-cheaper-and-easier organization.

And the same argument falls your agent provactuers. We already live in a fascist state - who needs a crackdown?

I didn't mean to get off on a rant here but I did. Politics amid such a tragedy is shameful when the Republicans use 9-11 footage in a re-election campaign and it is also shameful when I use it for an anti-Bush screed. I apologize.

But I kinda like what I typed so I'll leave it and ask you to just consider my original point: I'snt it interesting how Spain and the U.S. picked out different 'boogeymen' immediately?

Yeah MF that's just too true. And it's not shameful to post your educated opinion. Ever. I feel you man, this is BS. It's beyond bs, or dumb or tragic. I just can't say anything other than I'm so tired of seeing this sort of thing. It just eats a part of your soul...and I can't even pretend to imagine how the people closely connected to them feel. It's just too sad.

I have to agree with MF, 1984 is one of those books that teens should have to read in high school. It's an excellent book, one of George's best novels ever. There is a lot of truth to it, I could only hope our politicians have read it.

Leave it to whiners to turn a story about the evil of terrorism into an anti-gov't (especially anti-President Bush) issue. Way to go butthead.

You are trying to apply logic and rational thought to an issue that defies logic and reason. I'm sure they have their reasons for it (probably high up on the list was the ease of the accomplishing the task coupled with the potential number of casualties.)

Absolutely not true mentyl, but the extent of Spain's involvement in the war on terror hasn't had much coverage ... their support for the US/UK & other allies has been very strong, and their are Spanish troops in Iraq. Maybe not a huge number, but they are part of the alliance.

to inspire terror,and fear.

on another note,from the text...
Quote:
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan expressed “shock and indignation” as the 15-member Security Council went to work on a resolution to condemn the attack.

why is it that i find it funny,if not almost ludacris that they must "Draft a Resolution"
in order to condemn the attack?

i am saddened by this.
unprovoked murder for any reason, religious or otherwise, is still murder of innocents.
may they all rot in hell.
