converting from SVCD to divx or Xvid

Hey ppl. i have some files that are SVCD format and was wondering how to make them Divx or Xvid. I have bought Dr. Divx and it didn't do crap but mess upmy movie(won't play more than 3 secs) The reason i want to do this is cause the svcd player i have won't play in full screen it only works in 200% and i know divx can play in a bigger format. Anybody know of a conversion program(preferably free) that i could download?
or maybe a way to do this.

I've never had your problem specifically, but I'd look at what they offer at www.afterdawn.com . They have a good assortment of video tools.

I use FU. Fair Use that is. Converts DVD's to XViD/DivX AVI files. Supports AC3/MP3/OGG audio as well.

the quality of the file is going to decrease as you go from vcd to divx

there are quite a few ways to convert it look under guides @ http://www.doom9.org/

and i am sure that this thread was created for a question about homemade videos, and not anything illegal.

Dr Divx is horrible..dont use it..The program tex posted seems very easy to use compared to what I have used in the past. I am makin a xvid file with it now and will let you know how it turns out.

Clown, quality will not degrade noticeably, as long as he allows at least 700MB size limit.

Here is Underworld converted from DVD to 700MB. (Yes, a legal personal backup.)

FU looks alot easier than the DVD decrypter and a whole bunch of other tool that I have been using.

DVD is not a VCD or SVCD

VCD or SVCD comes from converting a DVD to VCD or SVCD...quality decreases

then to convert from VCD to divx even more quality decreases

Calm down Captain Quality-Loss, it all depends on the source quality and settings used in conversion.

Hey Guys thanx for the help but guess what. I feel dumb as hell. My radeon 9600 pro came with Power DVD and lets me put all my SVCD stuff in full screen though i will still convert it to divx. I guess i kinda wasted time but still got good feedback and got some new programs.

M3_two that is a cool avatar, did you do that yourself?

I wish I did make it heh..its a famous gif maker..My ava is only a tiny part of the entire thing..pm if you want the full gifs.
