Default Quick question for the MAC pimps

My instructor at tech is loking for a MAC that will run photoshop for his daughter in photography. He is trying to find either a nice, old one...or to find an inexpensive new one.

Thanks for the help, and i will be back on later

Excuse me, no offense. But I must laugh now. MAC pimps?? heheheh. That just doesnt sound right. There may be some who use macs at work, but as a rule, macs are 3x as expensive as PC's.

Good luck in trying to find a cheap one that will run photoshop.

Well it would partly depend on what version of Photoshop he intends to run. If it's Photoshop CS, you'd want to run it on a fairly recent G4 or better running OSX. If it's Photoshop 7 or earlier, you could get away with a very inexpensive G3 running OS9. Just load it up with lot's of ram. Ram is by far the best thing you can upgrade to run photoshop well.

Match it up with a good trinitron CRT monitor and you've got a nice little Photoshop station. Note LCD's can't be color calibrated, essential for photo work. If you have a choice of vid cards, go with the ATI over Nvidia. Even the cheaper ATI cards simply handle photo color better. The 3D ability of a card has no bearing on photoshop work, but the amount of ram on the card will effect performance.
