I've been looking around lately and the P4 has really been catching my eye. I've been having some nice
OC's on my 2500+ (2.58ghz stable) but the though of 300
FSB, 3.6ghz looks very very nice.
To make matters worse I've been looking through the 'classified' section at ocforums.com (overclockers.com, need 100+ posts to view) and unlocked 2500+'s are selling for around 135 a pop there, I figure I can probably bundle it with my NF7 (too bad I don't have the -S, might be a tough sell) I can get about $200 towards a P4 rig. Basically I could potentially get a 2.4C with a nice Abit IS7 or AI7 and get a P4 RBX instead of an AMD one...
I guess the question is; would it be worth it to essentially upgrade to a 2.4C for around $50? The real 'NO's' that pop out at me are the Prescott's that are being released soon and socket 939 and the A64; along with the fact that my 2500+ is doing quite well... Ideally I'd wait another month and see what prices do; in a perfect world the 2500+ stays vauled at $135 and the prices of the
CPU's I'm drooling over drop down. Worst case is the 2500+'s value drops but
CPU prices stay the same...
Also there's the long term issues; even if I get a P4C in a year or two I'm probably going to want to move to Socket-T or Socket 939 and whilst the P4C might buy me some performance now I'm not sure it would be worth the cost and potential issues that might arise (shipping most notably)...
Which leaves me with the eternal question; is it worth it???
