Default Virtual CD-RW???

This is kinda odd but I'm wondering if theirs a Image.iso or ISO image that when mounted in a virtual drive like PowerISO it would make programs like say Sony Sonicstarge recognize it as a blank R/RW so it would actually right to it.

The reason for this headache, is I have a handful of oma files (Sony protected DRM) that I have back when I bought electronic music from Sony. I want to put on my Zune but the only sure fire way to convert oma to mp3/wave etc is to burn it to a cd then rip it off the CD.

Thanks.

I think you should be able to create a .iso file containing those files, mount it and then rip it with WMP.

When you take copy-protected files and burn them to an audio CD, you remove the protection because the tracks are re-encoded as .CDAs which are readable by any standard CD player.

If you make an ISO with the files, you're just going to be slapping them into the .ISO without reformatting them to .CDA, and thus if you try and rip files from this they'll still be copy protected. What you need to do is find some way of writing a .CDA-formatted .ISO - possibly converting the music files to .CDA and then writing the .ISO?

Reflux, I think he's saying he'd be burning it with the Sony proprietary software that does that conversion, kinda like iTunes does the same for it's files to CD.

Spatha - The only thing I have found that matches what you want is Noteburner, but I don't know if it supports the Sony format. You can grab a free download, however, and find out. And, yes, I DID check into it's legality. It virtually burns a cd and rips mp3/ogg/wav from that virtual disk. No different than what you would do if you were burning a physical copy from your files.

Ah yes, I see. Sorry - thanks for sorting out my confusion!

Ya I looked into Noteburner before I posted here and it doesn't support Sony's format. I was hoping there was some kind of ISO image that computers recognized as a blank CD, I figured that would be cool as hell, also could be allot of fun to play with. I'm gonna try firing an email to the makers of PowerISO to see if they have any solutions.

I'm surprised a virtual blank ISO image isn't common. I figure someone would have played with this before, anyways I'll keep looking.

ya I saw that and was thinking about trying it.

I did email the power ISO guys and they said that it wasn't a feature of there program. If anything I'll just grab a CD-RW. I still think it would be cool if you could mount an image that was recognized as a blank disk.

or follow this info:

These programs may help if you can play the .oma on your computer, then the free program Audio Grabber can record them to mp3. It can record any sound that goes through your sound card to mp3 or wav.

But you must download and install the LAME encoder to be able to record to mp3, but that's easy enough to do. I just copied it out of my Audacity folder, which is another good free audio recorder (multi-track) that can record any sound going through your computer. But again you have to download the LAME mp3 encoder separately for Audacity too.

I like Audio Grabber better because it records directly to mp3, with no conversion time like Audacity, but Audacity still has its uses too.

Here's where you can get both programs. If you look around on either site they'll tell you where to get the LAME mp3 encoder.

Audio Grabber: Audiograbber, CD-ripper for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

Audacity: Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
