| He was a great dog but he was 14 1/2 and having back problems. It was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do. We still have his sister, Maggie. They were both born in this house and knew no other family. My wife was there to see them born. We're going to miss you Blu. Rest in peace buddy. | ||

| My condolences, Hojo, to you and your wife, I kind of knew how special they both are to you by how your wife lit up when she talked about them when I met you guys. I know you gave him a good life and that's all he knew. This is Marcia, Victor's wife: I am so sorry for your loss; words just seem so inadequate at a time like this. I do know that there is just nothing like the bond that we have with our furry friends, but you and your wife had that joy for a long time. | ||

| We love them both as well as Gizmo but there comes a time when you have to say goodbye. There is still that nagging feeling that you could have done more for them even when you know they've had a long and good life. Unfortunately Maggie is not doing well either and her time may come soon also. The funny thing with Maggie is she may very well be the last of that litter and she was the one that almost didn't make it to adulthood. The vet that put Blu down saved her life when she was 6 weeks old by performing heart surgery on her. In a local magazine article he claimed it was his most memorable case. Jo managed to track down a back issue a couple of years ago and we will keep that forever. | ||

| I've been where you're at, brother, and I feel your pain... I grew up with a german full-blooded black and tan dachsund (Loki von Schwarzvald), and we had to have him put down at about 15 1/2... I still miss him all these years later, but I remember him for the fun times more than for the bad time. The pain will ease, and my prayers are with you until such time... I also had to give my Golden Retriever (Riley) up when we moved (no homes to rent in Manhattan that would allow us to keep him), but I know the people that I gave him to, and they are good folks, so I know he'll be happy and healthy and loved... | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | sorry for your loss Hojo. i know the pain your going through right now. last week i had to put down my cat of 15 years. the wife and i are still trying to recover from it. our apt feels so empty, things dont seem enjoyable anymore. he has been there for both of us. he would curl up at my feet when i sit in my computer room and play, and he was there for my wife when i was deployed to Kosovo and Iraq. we think today or tomorrow we should be getting his ashes back from the Vets so we can give him a proper burial at our new house where he will always be with us. | |

| Sorry for your loss...my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I've only had my dog for almost 1.5 years, and I can't possibly imagine ever having to do that.... my wife and I are in the beginning stages of deciding whether we should put our 6 year-old cat, Siler, to sleep...there's nothing terribly wrong with him. Except that he's 1) deaf, and 2) pees everywhere besides the cat pan...we can't afford to get him the treatment he needs to fix a supposed urinary tract problem which could *possibly* be the reason as to why he's urinating everywhere (in HUGE quantities too). We just bought new furniture, and we will be moving in less than 2 years for my Seminary internship... We've discussed giving him up for adoption but we don't know if anyone else will take a skittish, deaf, urinating cat. And we can't bare the thought of him bouncing from home to home or being left in a cage for the rest of his life, not ever finding a new home... We really don't know what to do ![]() Sorry to hijack your thread, but my wife and I discussed this briefly today and then I saw your post, and I had to get my thoughts out ![]() | ||

| Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I'm glad we still have Maggie and Gizmo so the house doesn't feel so empty. When Maggie's time comes I think we'll have to get a companion for Gizmo (and us too) so it's not too lonely for him. He loves to play with her and she tries to play with him to whatever extent she can. | ||

| I know how it is to lose a dog, it is almost like losing a part of the family. My grandmothers dog, which i got, had passed away not too long ago. It was hard on my dad mainly because that was the only living thing he had left to remember her by. We let her go naturally and that was very hard because we had to watch her die. It is a very rough time. My mom also had a small dog that was about 20 years old that she had ever since he was born that passed away a couple of years ago, also. I know that was very hard for her because he passed away naturally. We now have 2 dogs, a small mixed breed and a larger black lab. The black lab is mine and the small dog is my mom's. If anything was to happen to my lab, i dont know what i would do. I am very sorry to hear that you had to do that to what was probably one of your best friends. If he was having back problems, atleast he is out of the pain and suffering now. | ||

| That's a really rough thing to have to go through, my friend. When I visited you guys I could easily tell how much of a bond you had with Blu. The little time I spent with him was enough to see how loving he was. I wish you and the rest of the family the best. 14+ years with a member of your family is hard to let go of. | ||

| Well, the time has come for Maggie to join her brother. I had to hold up her rear end just so she could make it across the room this weekend. The pills are no longer helping but at least it gave us a few more weeks with her. We have an appointment with the Vet tomorrow. It makes us very sad to loose two of our babies so close together but we can't bear to see her suffer. | ||
