Seriously though, iTunes. Limewire will do nothing but get you viruses, same goes for any other P2P type of program. Add to that the possibility of financial ruin if RIAA decides to sue you... and yeah thanks but no.

I posted a question about where my niece can d/l music without getting virii. I don't care if I have to pay for a service which is the legal thing to do.

I don't let my sister know how to use illegal services because I worry she'll destroy the PC with viruses, so she uses iTunes. It's OK for most stuff, but sometimes she has trouble finding what she wants. I guess it depends on what music your niece is into.

I am not condoning the use of illegal downloading, but if someone was this would prevent most viruses. Use G2P Beta v0.2: Google helps me find the goods this is just a more friendly version of doing the google mp3 search hack.

Instructions:

1) go to G2P Beta v0.2: Google helps me find the goods
2) enter song title, hit go
3) then a page with links to site index's with that title are shown. open a link (i normally open in a different tab or window as sometimes you might just get a site with just lyrics).
4) then you get a page in the index with songs, files, etc. find the song or hit Ctrl+F and search the page for it
5) (optional) click it to preview if you want
6) right click, then save link as

My kids use Napster and that works out pretty well, but I think we'll end up switching to Rhapsody. I also use Spiralfrog which is free, but the selection is limited. There are some classic tunes on Spiral that you wouldn't expect from a free service though.

I personally use lime wire, But frostwire does not have as many virus's and is more children friendly and easy to use.

Noslak i must be one of the luckiest person alive to use LimeWire as i have not ever gotten any type of viruses from using it, now of course i am using LimeWire Pro and i only download mp3's from it.

I made sure in one of my settings where it shows you what extension you can download and i only have mp3's in it, what i did is removed any other type extensions as i did not want any other types of downloads.

This is just a suggestion Noslak i would try removing all the extension and only type in mp3's if that is all you want her to do is get music.

Also something you should make sure on your settings make sure is type of connection you using make sure it is not set up to start up on connection meaning do not have it start up when you start your pc up do a manual connect.

Couple other things you need to make sure of is when Limewire is running and you are downloading say mp3's and all those other extensions that have not been removed that is where she is probably and most likely getting infected with viruses.

That is why i mentioned to remove all the extension and only have mp3's for a extension and a separate folder where your downloading the music to, see what happens when all those extension are in there that means anyone can upload or download stuff of your pc when Limewire is running, i would also make sure the check mark is not in the share extension box where it says share any type of files.


It is a little hard for me to word this so i hope that helps you out, again like i have said i have used Limewire Pro for a very long time going on i say at least 9 years now and i have never gotten any viruses from using it.
