| Uggggh!!!!!!!! So I've spent the majority of my winter break feverishly applying for internships and job for the summer. One thing I've noticed is everyone wants you to apply online.... *grumbles* Which means they can just have a machine discard all applications with certain things below what they want. My problem with it is I have a 2.7 GPA in a Mathematics: Actuarial Science Bachelor's of Science where most others are apply with a Bachelor's of Arts and 3.0+. So right off the bat I'm not looking so hot. Secondly most online applications leave little to no space to explain. Like where it comes to Degree... do I say Math or Actuary? Not to mention it gives me no space to state my intentions or other qualifications like Proficiency in Chinese and my plan to take exams this summer before the job starts... ![]() Last and foremost is the Online applications that take your preciously worded and nicely formatted resume and runs it through a meat grinder to somehow "help you" speed up the application process by guessing what goes in what blanks... Then within the same company you go to apply for another position only to have to go through it all again... ![]() Damn it I hate Online Applications.... Dreyco Over & Out. ![]() | ||

| I've turned in 19 online applications, I've also handed four handwritten applicatiion, I've only got 3 jobs (1 twice). As much as technology is soo helpful, i hate online applications. My Aunt got a job at a bank with one, it had a 4 or 5 page personality test, god I hate those. | ||

I once worked at an auto parts store in Buffalo that had a 4-page personality test ... I loved it when they asked the question, "Do you ever watch a movie about a robbery and root for the burglar?" Come on, who hasn't done that? My mistake was answering truthfully. But to get back on topic: Dreyco: where are you applying? I work for Boeing, you know ... -godling

| Yeah - the computerized processing of resumes sucks. I've gotten calls to see if I want to work as an architect, manage a dry cleaner, etc. all because I wrote computer programs for those types and some high schooler [yes - high schooler] got a keyword match. I have SERIOUSLY considered spamming up my own resume with the 'words in white' technique. Just below the references add 'I don't know Javascript, I don't know Oracle' and so on in white text so that the keyword search would ALWAYS pick up my resume and then when the recruiter called I could be all 'Where did you find that on my resume?' Serves 'em right for not doing the homework .... -MF | ||

If by where you mean geographically, I'm looking in Minneapolis, MN and China on whim. If by where you mean which companies, I've applied at too many to tell you them all. Basically anywhere they need Risk Management, Consulting, or Insurance type stuff.
