Before we went to war, Franch gave 120 BIllion + U.S. dollars worth of weapons to Saddam on credit. This was done in a time where it was illegal to supply this country with arms.

Today, France said that they may forgive Iraq on the debt of 120 billion dollars if other creditor nations agree.


Now wait a second. France supplied weapons to Iraq's military to be used against U.S. interest. Do not let us forget the Saddam was paying suicide bombers money to attack U.S. interest. Wouldn't this make France a country of terrorism?

European Union needs to punish France. I'm not saying that a country needs to declare a war against France..just maybe a trade boycott against France.


I like to note that I usually try to stay away from controversial posts...but France really makes me mad.

and yes they would be a terrorist state, but they are not considered an immediate threat by others, and it is a big "secret" so the other countries do not know France sold arms to Iraq. And they aren't 2 years over due, for a change in government.

Remember the second Iraq War was supposed to take place 2 years earlier, as per the cease fire agreement, that ended desert storm.

And didn't they want to help rebuild?

Sell them the weapons to fight a war and then sell them the clean-up services.

We know the French and Americans supplied Saddam's arms. There's evidence that the Germans helped him with his poison gas. Why don't you lump the Germans into the "Evil" catagory as well. But the biggest supplier of arms, intelligence and other untoward commodities is really gonna upset you....

Let's think back to 1980. Remember a lovely little war Saddam waged against Iran? The U.S. supported his 1980 war against Iran (it provided intelligence and even firepower). There's even pictures of your boy Donald Rumsfeld having tea & scones with Saddam. Anybody with Internet access can take a look at the famous 1983 photo him shaking hands with a smiling Saddam

The truth of the matter is that the American foreign policy in the middle east has been one of "choose the lesser of two evils and hope it doesn't come back to haunt". In 1979, the US supplied a group in Afganistan with weapons and intellegence to help fight the soviets after they invaded. Care to guess what that group did 23 years later? Then the whole aforementioned Saddam thing with Iran happened.

Lord Dragon says " And didn't they want to help rebuild..." yes, much like the US government did after the Soviets pulled out of Afganistan.

The moral (pardon the pun) of the story is that every government is evil. It allows them to satisfy their own agenda. To Say France is evil without acknowleging the evil things that governments like Brittian, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Isreal and the US Government is not only unfair, it is wrong.

Don't flame me. I am quite happy that Saddam is now captured. He is a sick bugger who deserves to get his. Let's all let the oil flow freely and try to get along......

I haven't been living for 30 thirty years. I was born later than 1980. So yes I am not fully aware of all the events that took place. I knew that we did supply arms to Saddam before.

My understanding of that was that he was a good guy then. But now he gained extremist views and murdered thousand thousands of his own people.

Did the U.S. supply weapons to a country whose been boycotted by the UN?

I wasn't aware that Germany helped him develop poison gas. When did that occur?
