So philosphically - how is this not stealing.

You know ... I'm not a hardcore modder; I'm a software guy. And let's assume I build something cool. Something worthy. Hasn't happened yet, but blind squirrels do find acorns.

And I decide that to compete in this old world since I don't have Microsoft's budget for doughnuts much less for marketing, I'm gonna let you try my product for 30 days.

Will Ferrari let you drive a Tessarossa for 30 days then pay? Will Whirlpool let you wash clothes for 30 days then pay? McDonalds? Glock? Buehler? Buehler?

And then after 30 days, you decide that you like my product so well you - aren't gonna pay me for it. Please be here at Christmas when my daughter opens her empty box so she can thank you personally.

This is an ancient debate. I remember a guy in college arguing vehemently that it was ok for him to steal Lotus 1-2-3 [how many have used 1-2-3 here? I used to teach CLASSES in it] as long as he didn't call for tech support because he would never have paid for it anyway.

Hey MNPCTech, can I borrow one of you awesome cases for 30 days ... and then just keep it? I didn't think so.

While there might be some extenuating circumstance where these techniques were legit, mostly they are just a screwdriver in the steering column. And while Bill Gates doesn't need another race car, most of the guys who offer trialware haven't got race cars unless they are made by Mattel.

Think about it...

Fair points, but i came across this because i genuinely have to re-install WinDVD creator 2 (which came with my Mpeg4 hardware but i cant find the disc at the moment.) which is corrupted and i uninstalled it.

So, i thought, Hey, i can try the latest release. This new version comes with a 14day free trial, but guess what. The trial says its expired when i first load it.

Hence this thread.

14days will let me still use my hardware that i bought, and give me time to find the disc that came with the licenced software.

Reflux smells naughty business. Interesting link, but it's against the rules. And them's the rules I'm afraid.
