Default PC Migration

Well today is the day , I'm finally ambitious enough to start the long tedious process of tearing down my 3 main rigs and transfering all "STUFF'" into one "MEGA RIG". Anyone else here ever do this ? and if so were you like me , just dreading it and the though of reinstalling ALL those years of built up appz and such that made your pc/pc's just the way you like . I genrally dont mind doing new installs , but in this case one is my HTPC pc , and well moving all my movies is well OMG , I dont wanna were talking well over a Tbyte of movies alone spread over three pc's. Guess I shoulda been more orginized to start out

I had to make the leap once. Once you compile all of your movies/music/pr0n onto one HD that doesn't have an OS on it, life becomes much simpler and happier. It's always nice to have a fresh rig, just don't forget to snag a sweet codec pack! I like the defiler codec pack here.

Well depends on how future proof you want to be. I'd probably go with Vista (if you've allready got a copy) simply because it's easier to start out with it rather than have to upgrade later on. Another thing with Vista is that it can be pretty resource heavy--though since this is going on Q6600 I don't think that will be much of a problem
Vista is actually quite stable now, and the majority of the driver incompatabilities have been ironed out. SP1 is on the way so things are looking good for Vista.

That said I certainly wouldn't go out and spend $150 on it.

A legit copy of Vista 32-bit Home Premium is cheaper than XP Pro :-)

Vista Ultimate Edition 64, and 4GB RAM = <3

I have had to switch over masses of files on many occasions. I usually just leave a lot of stuff transfering to an external drive then go to bed or something, but if you're going to have to compile every hard-drive onto one drive to then load onto your single mega-rig? Good luck!
