I have never owned anything Bose. But, I have heard some of their equipment. The $300 bose ipod stero sounds amazing for its size. I've heard some of their car systems, they sound good as well. Their surround sound sounds pretty nice too. I had a friend who had some Bose surround. He loves it.

Bose sound systems are better than they claim. If you ever get a chance to go to a real Bose store in a mall I would recommend it. They have a demonstration room that puts most theatres to shame.

I have a Bose Lifestyle 12 System for my downstairs theater and it damn sure rocks, but you have to ensure you have a good, powerful amp to push it. Are you talking for a home theater or for computer?

Bose systems ( Home Theater ) are one of the few i've heard that does what it say on the box , and then some............. My Sister has a Bose set-up and its just awsome , best sounding system i've heard and actually does justice to movies when your watching on a big screen TV .

Saying that , i'm more than willing to lay money that thier PC speaker systems are OUTSTANDING!!

They show how the soundwaves move on the TV, but it seems like it would have to be better if you had speakers all around you. If you're playing a game and in the game someone was sneaking up behind you it doesn't seems as though Bose would work here. Anyway, here's the speakers I was looking at.

Bose is a good speaker. There single center and dual center speaker setups that project rear sounds, actually sound better than having full 7.1 surrond.

Gamin is a little different, so i can't tell yea if theyd work, but they are awesome stuff.

I'll buck the trend. Bose does make a decent speaker ...but

Bose are quite possibly the most over priced and over hyped speakers on the planet.

Yamaha's YSP Digital projectors blow away Bose's single point or three point TrueSpace systems. Everybody does some form of Virtual surround sound, very few systems can get it right.

As for True surround sound:
Dozen's of manufacturers produce better sound for less money then Bose's 5.1-7.1 systems.

Rather than subs, mids and tweeters Bose uses Acoustimass modules and Twiddlers. That's code for no sub audible lows and a sizable gap in the area around 200 to 250Hz. The tiny sattelites can't handle lows and mids well so the Acoustimass module has a crossover that is much higher than the norm. With sub-par mids and no lows, the satellites sound shrill. And while audible lows are there, you don't get the super low tones that you would with a real sub woofer. Bose doesn't list specs for frequency response, there is a reason for that.

Bose are crap.

What system were you planning on buying? Price range? I can reccomend something much, much better.

For the price of a bose system, you could have something along the lines of what I use:

Mind you, it's only stereo, but that's my preference. You would still be able to smash any Bose system in HT for the same price. That's just my example.

I have some bose triports and a home stereo (wave music system). The quality is amazing for its size. The way they make the bass sound like its coming from those little speakers is amazing.

What speakers are they dude?

Anyway Bose aren't c***! it's down to personal preference and the enviroment in which they are going to be used! imo Bose offer a good all round sound especially for their price's!
I never go for the cosmetic aspect when buying audio equipement, but bose have a knack of lookin' good!
thats my 2cents anyway

More examples:

This bose system here, retails for $2999. Now, what you get, are small 3" drivers, inside small plastic cubes. A subwoofer with mostly likely, a small 8" low frequency driver that can barely move enough air to give you adequate bass.

For the same price, you can buy av123's Strata Mini's. hand built cabinets that are reinforced and insulated very well. Great drivers. A lot of research and testing goes into these. You can also buy a very good amplifier and dvd player for $1000 to equal the cost of the B(L) ose system.

And if you want surround sound for a HT:

A 5.1 speaker package comprised of these:

And still have $1000 left over to buy your cables, amp, dvd player, and whatever else you want.

av123 even has a very inexspensive but amazing speaker, which retails for $219/pair.

And if those are out of your price range or interest, just go with some logitechs, they are far better than any bose system, and half the price in most cases.

My parents have bose in one of their cars, its good, not much bass though, its very clear. And I used to have a small bose clock/alarm/radio like the black one posted above. For how small it was, it created amazing sound. But like everyone else says they are way overpriced.

We have 4 setups at are house 3 are bose one is Bowers and Wilkons. The 3 bose consist of a Danali with a bose system sounds awsome.
My dads 1970 Yamaha Reciver and a pair of l'chepo ($200) bookshelfs they sound good but nothing to brage about.
My brothers 2002 Yamaha Amp with 2 steps up from my dads ($300)

I own a 1998(dont really remember preaty old) Sony Reciver (definulty needs an upgrade) with 5 Bowers and Wilkons, 2 book shelfs 1 masive center channel and 2 Floor standing. Needless to say the Bowers and Wilkons setup blows all the others out of the water. ( I haven't even hooked up the bookselfs as my rears yet).
Bose sound dam good but Bowers and Wilkons are just awsome.

By the way like 82% of the music industy uses Bowers and Wilkons.
They don't make a small speaker system unfortunutly.

Bose are a good choice if you ask me.

With all due respect to the Bose lovers here, I really don't see what the hype is about.

My buddy has a bose system in his G35. it's sounds like crap compared to the system I put together on a 4-kid budget.

My cousin paid Über-buxx0rz for his Bose home theater system, and for a fraction of the price I put together a system with Definitive Technology speakers. Clear as crystal, yet can wake up the neighbour's babies - 2 doors down, on the other side of the backyards. (trust me, I had a knock on the door Saturday afternoon during some fun-time...well, fun for me, but the neighbour didn't have fun putting his twins back to sleep!! )

General rule of thumb: Listen to them yourself. If you like what you hear, buy it; otherwise find something else. Personally, I could never be satisfied with a Bose system. Just doesn't do it for me...

EDIT: HAHA...the guy with the G35 just sent me an email asking if I could help him put together a new system for his car to replace the Bose...talk about coincidence!

I'll agree to that, listen to them yourself is the best way to go. I also go with the philosophy if you can buy it at best buy...Don't.(that goes with any store of the like)
I did say bose where a good choice but thats only becase their are so many more bad choices, I most certinly would never pay money for them.
