Default Need some hardware advice, sell, or keep?

Well, a while back, I got lucky and got two of the $18 Dell 10k RPM 147MB hard drive deal:
Small Business: 147.1 GB 10,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI Internal Hard Drive

Turns out Dell was shipping Seagate Cheetah 15k SAS drives. See post #79
http://forums.pcapex.com/deals_and_s...or_18_a-4.html

I got a Dell Perc5/I card, geez this thing is sweet, 256MB of DDR2 RAM! But it does not fit in my PCI slot. Mine is a PCIx4, and this controller wants a PCIx8 slot. So I could fleabay them and probably get around $400 to $500 for the drives.

Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 SAS 146GB Hard Drives ST3146855SS - (eBay item 190145183041 end time Sep-03-07 15:35:34 PDT)

Or do I just toss them in the parts bin and see what happens with SAS drives in the next year or so?

Or maybe someone here is interested. If so, I may have a deal for you. I have not decided what I am going to do yet, (see title of the thread), but what do you think about this for a 'pimp' type deal? Hard drives $125 each. Controller (got it off fleabay, can't test it, looks good) $40, so for $290 plus shipping, is that a good deal? Yeah, I still have not settled with AllState on my wreck last June, getting a little hard up for cash, so I do plan on making a few bucks or holding on to the stuff.

I would also consider trades for a video card better than a x850GT or a socket 939 CPU that will beat an Athlon 3700 San Diego.

Sorry for the screwed up thread, I would have put it in the selling section, but I might just hang on to it.

15k RPM Raid0... I want that, but sometimes you get what you need.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Does the controller come with the sas cables?

You can put the card in a 16x pci express slot and it should work without a problem. PCI express is upwards compatibale.

Don't have any cables. The card looks more like a standard old school PCI card. My other PCIX socket is twice the size of the card. Does that matter?

LOL! I got it up, computer detected a RAID card. WinXP wants drivers. My board is a DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra D. I put it in the other PCI x slot, where you would run SLI. And yep, sometimes I am a total dumbas@! But it boots! I need some 15k RPM goodness.

Sometimes my email seems slow. So I want to upgrade

Thats fine. PCIX is a different slot. Its like 2 PCI slots in one. PCI express is the newer technology. PCI-X - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is not done yet, but when I saw it halt during the boot, I figured it could be made to run.

So we shall see.

Actually, I think I need these drivers:
Drivers & Downloads

The other drivers are for the perc5/e. I have the perc 5/I. Geez, 256MB or DDR2 RAM for a cache?

Gotta go find cables.

Cables are ordered. I had a heck of a time trying to find them, wound up just taking a drive and the controller to a local computer store. Nice folks, took a while, they first were going to get me cables for SATA drives, we got it worked out. They even set it up so it is shipped to my house, I just paid the price + shipping + $10. Not bad. I don't mind paying if someone helps me out.

Hopefully I will have it up, running, and benchmarked next week.
