Default An interesting day!

Well... I started off my day as I usually do... screaming. (just kidding)

Actually, I applied at this temp/employment agency... Took a coupla tests Office stuff (they said I was professional grade. So I'm feelin' like a GMC truck). So I'm all signed up with them...

In between, I had two chicks sorta hit on me today (which was pretty cool, but I have to get my ass employed to even offer to go get coffee with 'em...)

My car stalled four times trying to get out of the way of a f*cking armored truck coming my way (backing out of a parking lot), so all in all... my heartrate has been up since I woke up ;-)

Anyway... life is already gettin' better... Viva Arizona!

Is that under the provisions of the Andy French Factor ? (where a guy is _legally entitled_ to exaggerate matters involving the opposite sex up to a maximum of one order of magnitude [10x]) ?

MF: They usually tell me to die after we go out for awhile... you're just skipping that whole middle step of actually paying to take them out

Jon: Only very slightly exagerated. We got up to flirting conversation... never got up to "I have a dungeon in my basement we could explore"... Still, I have high hopes after I locate employment!

I believe it was Mae West who first said, "Is that a katana in your kimono or are you just glad sashimi?"

Well you mentioned katana. How about a Tachi. It is a big sword? In a lot of cases it is larger than a katana if I am correct.Guess it all depends on your body type.

Okay, a quick overview of Japanese swords of the Samurai:

Katana: can range in length between 28 and 42 inches (older blades usually went a little shorter... anywhere from 25 to 32). Slightly curvature. Was part of the set "Daisho" (Daito= Long Blade, Shoto= Short Blade). Usually carried edge up.

Tachi: Tachi's were usually worn by higher-ranking Samurai or Daimyo (lords). They were worn in place of the Katana in a Daisho set. Usually carried edge down.

The tachi was usually around the same length as a katana...

Wakazashi: Short Sword/ Shoto. Samurai used a long blade and a short blade.

Tanto: Knife the Samurai could use a back-up weapon, or for other tasks. Usually they carried a small knife in the throat of their sword scabbard to eat with, so the Tanto was not used for that kind of thing...

I've seen pictures of a Katana (It has a name... I'd look it up, but that book is in ND, and searching for online it is a pain) that was used in warfare... that was roughly 5+ feet long.

Im a big fan of katanas. I used to bug my parents about getting one, but they don't fancy large, sharp objects around the house. Besides me, of course.
My thinking changed after I saw Kill Bill. I wasn't aware that REAL katanas could slice up body parts so fast. Maybe I'll just get the decorative ones....

Gorked, the Samurai used to do something called "Blade Testing".

They would stack prisoners (yes, alive) and use the blade to go through them. Then they'd stack the peices, and hack through those...

However many peices it would go through was the blade's rating, which was imprinted on the tang on the old swords.

I've seen blades with these ratings... It's kind of eerie to know you're holding something that hacked through three people, and five stacked parts...
