| Without giving you all details you probably couldn't care less about, let's just say it's been a stressful year. ![]() What you'll need: 1x Battle Ready sword of your choice (Preferably made out of Japanese Steel, this is one of the best metals for swords) - this'll cost you at least $200 USD. Or an axe. ![]() Large property w/plenty of trees that noone but the tree huggers care about ![]() Gloves if you don't have calloused hands/aren't used to hacking at things with semi-sharp -> sharp object (i.e. axes) Here's what you do: Take said sword (or axe), find a tree that's about 2-5 years old (should be about 5-10 inches thick, thinner if the sword/axe isn't very sharp) and hack away until you hear a rather satisfying *snik* type noise, once you hear that noise, get out of the tree's way unless you hacked on a side of it facing to your right or left. NEVER stand in front of a falling tree. Despite the cartoons making it look funny, it would most likely hurt like hell. ![]() How to care for your sword/axe: What you need: 1500 & 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper Steel Polishing/Cleaning compound Sharpening Stone (You'll want an abrasive pad, something like what you use for washing dishes and some comet powdered cleaner to tend your stone) Honing Oil OR: Belt sander w/VERY fine grit sanding belts - this serves two purposes; cleaning, and sharpening. Lacking a belt sander, you want to start out by sanding the sword down; this helps clean it, hence the very fine grits. If you can find a polishing/cleaning solution for steel, use this next. After you've cleaned the sword, proceed to take the sharpening stone to the edge of your sword - You want to use strokes that lead away from you and keep the stone flat on the edge of the sword, not angled. This is time consuming, so for the lazy, or for those who simply don't have the time, use the belt sander with VERY fine grit sanding belts. The belt sander will be slightly less time consuming, but usually yields more favorable results anyway. ![]() A slightly more relaxed, ~ Duane - The Slightly Mad Swordsman ![]() P.S. This thread is kind of meant as a joke. Lemme know if you get a kick out of it. ![]() | ||

You can always go to your state Renaissance fair if your state has one. Should have decent swords there. I actually got my "Battle-Ready" Ninjato from the MD state Rene fair ![]() Of course, it costs just to get in...so that might be a problem. And seeings how I don't much care for fire-arms, I'll stick to hacking and bashing stuff. Going to take my sledge hammer to a couple of old scrapped PC cases here in a bit... ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
