Default Dell sucks, so I'm stuck with a choice...

Ok. Dell says my speakers are due to ship on july 17th-ish.

(the logitech z-5500s on their site came to $280 after free shipping, then tax)

The Egg has the Newegg.com - Creative G500 310 Watts RMS 5.1 GigaWorks ProGamer Speaker System - Retail for around $250 after shipping.

Any ideas which is better or if they're about on par with eachother?

I honestly wouldn't have the speakers set up till late august, unless I could get them to fit in the space I'm in right now. But based on the month delay to get the speakers SHIPPED by Dell, I'm a bit hesitant to keep my order with them.

Thought about contacting the Egg and seeing if they want to stick one to the "man," but not sure if they'd jump at it, as they've got their z-5500s before shipping at $302.99 and it'd be a decent loss to ship them for $280. Anyhow... Any opinions on the Newegg.com - Creative G500 310 Watts RMS 5.1 GigaWorks ProGamer Speaker System - Retail vs the z-5500s?

To be honest I haven't listened to the Creative set (unless I have listened to it's cousin made by Cambridge, who makes the GigaWorks for Creative), but I know the Z-5500s sound pretty dang good for dedicated computer speakers.

I wouldn't do anything just yet. I've heard that Dell will ussually give you a ridiculous ship date and then have them at your door within a week. I'd wait a week and then call up Dell. And since you wouldn't even be able to get them set up until August it doesn't seem like it's worth the mess.

As for sound quality, I've not heard the Creative's but the Logitech's are absolutely amazing.

Yeah, they definitely do that; when I bought a laptop off them a couple of years ago, they stated a delivery date of about two weeks and it came in 4 days, before the invoice even came.

Sounds to me like Dell is providing you with free storage.
Also, I've personally experienced the outrageous ship dates they use while receiving my order less than a week after placing it. On the other hand, I've also had items ship exceptionally late.
If you don't need the speakers until August, let Dell store them for a little bit, keep the clutter down in your home.

I have no knowledge of the creative speakers but the logitech ones your purchasing are awesome. I've only owned them since april but ive been very pleased with them. Although, I have to say the size of these are very misleading. They didnt look so big in the picture but man the sub is like huge. It's dimension are like 13" x 13" x 15" deep. Sound quality is very good and the bass will shake the house.

Sorry i dont have much time to give more details. Since i need to get out the door for work.

Hope this helps for now....

any of you who own the 5500s able to give me dimensions on the width and such of the holes in the satellite stands by any chance? I think I found a set of speaker stands that'd be perfect in Best Buy for like $50.... tempting

I hope this is what your looking for......

The 4 left and right channel satelites are 3 1/2 inches from hole to hole. As for the center satelite its 5 inches. The L/R satelites dimensions are 3 3/4 by 6 1/2 and about 4" deep with the covers on.
