That is awesome, I guess oil is a horrible coductor...but wouldnt the oil get hot with the CPU running in it over time

I've actually seen this done before. It's pretty cool, but upgrading the pc is a real pain. Also the temps arent incredible at all. Its more of a proof of concept thing. Still, nice find.

Not great temps on its own, anyway, but provides a great surface area for other cooling.

Jumbo Peltier anyone?

wonder what would happen if they did water cooling, on the oil... just have one tube take it to a radiator outside the case, and another tube return the cool oil... and have it aimed at the cpu

It's a fishtank computer! I personally would opt for passive cooling, since the increased resistance of the mineral oil is probably going to decrease their lifespans substantially, and maybe opt for some kind of external rad setup. I'm not the extreme cooling specialist, but there has to be some way to chill that stuff.

If you had the oil on some pumped loop of its own, you could water cool the tubing you run it through. A copper double helix, with the oil running through one side, and the water running through the other side in the opposite direction, which would be the best for heat transfer.

The only problem is oil would be hell to pump with normal water cooling pumps, though I suppose if one were to do this, he would be able to get something a bit stronger.

Reminds me of my idea to use another water cooling loop instead of a radiator. No real point, but it would be interesting. Set up competitions to see who could get the most loops and keep it under a certain temp.
