Default Cleaning the Garage

All right. We have a two car garage, and for the past 5 years, half of it has been taken up by a '95 Dodge Spirit. The engine was completely blown, so it was useless. So my father calls Key Bank to come and get their car, since it was a lease. Key Bank won't come out and get their car, they want us to have it towed and pay the expense. So fsck that. For the next 5 years it sat. Last week, my mother had a brilliant idea. A local junk yard we've done business with in the past agreed to come out and get it for free. And why not? The parts on the car are all in really good condition (engine not withstanding) so it's 100% profit on their part, since they're just going to tear it apart and sell it anyway.

Some pictures of the old girl being sent off to that scrapyard in the sky. Well, more like the scrapyard down the road, but whatev.

It should be noted I do all my work in said two car garage. Moreover, i do it in an isolated corner in the far back of the left side of the garage. Why you ask?

Our garage. The left is completely cluttered with scavenged computer parts.

Where did they all come from? About 3 years back my father, already a pack-rat, decided to go dumpster diving behind all the local PC shops on his way home from work. There are cases and side-panels and U-shaped covers and boards of all shapes and kinds all over. Particularly, though, is the workbench int he far back. It's a huge workspace... well, it would be.

If it weren't for this.

So as soon as dad left for work, the first thing I did was clean up all the trash. I took about a metric arseload (roughly equivalent to a $hit-ton) of manuals and technician guides that he had scavenged along with the computer parts and just tossed them. Being a pack-rat, he can't stand to part with something once he has it, and he swears he'll find a use for a binder full of information on being an AT&T sales rep. It should be noted at this point that all blame and flame can be pointed at mother for teaching me how to clean, and for approving everything I do.

So after I got the trash mostly cleaned up, I pulled out cardboard boxes full of parts. The first one looked like it had a couple mobos and sound cards in it. Looks can be very decieving. Behold the contents of the box:

Whoop, that's not the box ^^;

THAT. Is the box. Yeah, no joke, that's an insane amount of PCB. Mobo's, riser cards, sound card, vid cards (props if you can spot the lone AGP card), and things I'd never even seen before. I carefully sorted these as best I could into cardboard boxes. Temporary storage until mom and I go out and buy some big ol' shelves and some plastic storage boxes. The box it was in found new residents. Namely about 30 motherboards ranging from almost as old if not older than me to P4's and K7's.

Again, temporary storage until we can get some plastic bins and shelves and what-have-you-not. Mom has also expressed great interest in getting rid of these, and the heavy task of testing and selling them rests on the head of yours truly. Perhaps I'll open up a FS thread in the near future . Out of curiousity, how many of you lovely pimps and pimpettes would be interested in such hardware? Lots of retro gear, and some newer-ish stuff. I'm distrustful of all of it due to the location it was found, the manner in which it was retrieved, and the storage conditions, but you never know. Dad sure seems to think it's a gold-mine . Never-the-less, if anyone would express interest in some of the hardware in my garage (I will def. be selling the cases in the forseeable future. We have about 15-20 mid-towers, a couple SFF cases, those big full towers {although we're keeping two- one for a home server, and one for me to mod }, and some desktop cases too. Too much space.)

I rearranged the garage a bit. Moved the cases off of the bench and started clearing myself a path to get to the work area. I'll probably do more, but this was exam week at school, and I'm working 3 out of the next 4 days (and applying for a new job at a greenhouse the one day I have off- wish me luck!) so clean-up will probably resume Tuesday or Wednesday. See you then!

I would be intrested in K6-2 hardware, if you happen to find a K6-2+ specifically.

I am looking for older hardware that is overclockable (Motherbaords and ram) ASUS, ABIT and Gigabyte, Mushkin, Corsair..etc.

Any video cards by 3DFX in there...or some older high end ATI or NVIDA ones by chance?

What AMD XP CPu's and P-4's did you find?

Solid, I'm not too sure about the K6-2 stuff, but it's very likely. We have a small box full of older memory, too; I'm pretty sure I can find you something. As for video cards, I am almost completely positive there is at least a handful of 3DFX out there. I'll be sure to let you know!

I'm currently in the process of rounding everything up and sorting it into it's respective category [video cards, sound cards, mobo's, RAM, and so on] so I can then go through and identify things much easier. Mom's going to go out and pick up storage tubs this week. I dunno how longit'll be before I get a listing, but I will certainly keep an eye out for anything you're interested in while I sort I'll put anything of interest aside for ya.

Actually, I think there is one or two dual-proc mobos out there. You'll be the first to know

If you mean the ones on the workbench, those are all big ones. I call them full-tower because they're easily 6-8 inches taller than my mid-tower. [And actually, the first one on the right and the third one from the right are identical twins- separated at birth, brought together by a twist of fate.] Regardless, I'll hit you with a price as soon as I've got one. Dibs belong to you.

All right! Solid has given me a nice list of names to keep an eye out for, and we've got lots of people interested in cases. I'll get some better pictures of the full-towers and start putting together the mid-towers this week (it's like trying to put together twenty 5-piece puzzles with all the pieces in the same box) and post those. If dad is cool with selling it all, I'll start a thread on the trade forum. Not counting the stuff people already have dibs on, of course

Thanks for the interest, guys!

That's fine if it's actually a full-tower case. A full-tower would actually fit my needs better as I will be needing a case that will fit a full-sized server motherboard for my server project this summer. So whenever you get the info on it, please let me know.

I spotted the AGP card. It's a GeForce 3 Ti500. Center of the 3rd pic, look for the RAM chips and half of a heastink/fan assy.

It also appears there is a Radeon 7000 or a 7/8/9xxx series AGP card in the upper right of the 3rd picture.

No 3dfx cards found though.

Man, I let this thread slide.

Good eye j-dogg, you get a gold star. Anyways, updates. I'm getting a yellow light on sales, mostly because my dad is being a bit of a stickler and wanting me to find references for prices. Google basically fails me, so I'm going to see what you guys think. What do you think the full tower cases are worth? I'll be posting a whole slew of pics ASAP tomorrow, then I gotta find the time between mods to sort and document some of the stuff we have, I may be selling a lot of it in bulk lots on the cheap, maybe just random goody grab bags for 5-20 a piece.

Updates tomo- er, later today, I suppose.

I'd say 10-20 for a case. Actually, from what I've seen, thats about the range of everything you have.

It definitally not the goldmine your dad thinks it is.

Well folks, just got word from my dad, he wants me to start getting this stuff out of the garage ASAP.

So, for those of you who were interested in the AT cases: $20 + shipping. As long as you've got good rep around here, I'll understand if you want to hold payment till you get your goods, but whatev. Shoot me a PM.

As for the rest of the stuff... I'm gonna try and get a bench system set up to at least test some of it, but I was also thinking of maybe just selling it in grab-bag fashion, what do you think? Like $5-$15 for a box loaded with cards, procs, mobo's. Kudos for feedback in advance

AS previously mentioned, I am intrested in any 3DFX related hardware, and anything that is overclockable type hardware from the pre P-3 era. (Memory, Motherboards, maybe something like that Geforce 3 Ti)

PM me if you find something alng those lines.
