| Any of you folks remember that cadence? I actually did get a letter today from GrandpaNoob72. He wanted me to "let those fine folks know that so far, all is well for me and my platoon." I can't really post too much on a public forum, but he is in an area where things are rather dicey, but he sounds real confident in himself and his soldiers. He doesn't have access to a computer but said if he does get near one he will post a quick hello. I sent him a package and he let me know how much him and his soldiers liked it. It just contained some basic soldier items like beef jerky, nuts, and a few baked goods, but you have no idea how cool it is to get something in the mail when you are deployed. I'll be getting another one together and make sure I include plenty of goodies for all of his guys, and I invite any of you to do the same. It's a small price to pay in order to show how much we appreciate the sacrifice that GPN and all the other deployed soldiers are making. If you PM me I will give you his deployed mailing address (if I trust you). If you have any questions on what is and isn't acceptable to be sent by mail, I can answer that for you too. | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | i can help out and suggest a few things they may/do/ need. wetwipes. any type of packaged food. very good chance they have a microwave oven. so if it can be nuked, its all good. chocolate. AT&T calling cards. most of the time you have to use a calling card even with the DSN phone lines. magazines. local news papers - we love to hear whats going on, doesnt matter where. canned air - for cleaning weapons, and computers and whatever else. also, very clean paint brushs to also help clean weapons. long bristles. batteries. AA and AAA. not much use for other types, but maybe ask. any kinda of hand held games. something to help make the time go by faster. hand sanitizer - army provides it, but its worse than the germs out here. mricowave safe bowls. honestly, this list can go on. this is just a basic solider list. if he has women in his platoon, thats a whole new ball of wax. i have his PM's and talked to him while he was in Kuwait, but not sure if he moved on. i would tell him and anyone who is interested in supporting the troops to go to AnySoldier.com. have him register his whole platoon there. as for people looking to support, you can find out what soldiers requests are to get a idea of what he can or could use or you can pick soldiers to support from there too. if he is on a actual base, then he should have access to the PX where he is able to purchase tons of junk food and hygien items. thats why i didnt really list any personal care stuff really. even if he isnt on a main base, he will be able to still get a chance to go in and pick it up, but maybe check with him to find out if he may need it sent out. by the end of the month, it should be hitting the mid 90s. by mid april maybe 100ish. the hottest i have seen here personally is 140. 167 degrees in a humvee without AC. | |

| I would be more than willing to throw in either items or a donation myself. I have donated to several "help a soldier" foundations in recent years and it honestly lightens the heart more than you know when you get a thank you letter. Here are some more links if you want to check them out: Soldiers' Angels - Home AnySoldier.com America Supports You Home - Google - OUCP OPERATION SPONSOR A SOLDIER | ||

| Cool, I've already had some members contact me who plan on shipping stuff out. The PayPal thing is a good idea, but it would mean a whole lot more to him to receive individual packages instead of a consolidated one. Call it "bragging rights". ![]() | ||

So true, I had forgotten about that aspect. I never went "in the field" for extended periods while in the Army Reserves, and I had a bit more room on the ship while in the Navy due to the nature of my job and having access to spaces with a "need to know" clearance. Not even the Captain could go in without sufficient reason, so I was able to bring more stuff than most. I'll be sending you a PM as soon as I finish eating.

| I was hoping to get a few PM's, but am pleasantly surprised that I have received a large number of PM's from members interested in sending GPN some goodies. I could say thanks, but it ain't for me... GPN will let you know himself when he gets back. | ||

OFFTOPIC: It irks me so much when people say they are "nuking" something in a microwave, microwaving something and nuking something are totaly different. back on topic I hear that they really want silly string because its useful for finding trip wires and booby traps

| Apex Tech Fanatic | ehh... not sure about that really. maybe in the towns but even then, i dont see there being alot of trip wires. most of the stuff out here is either infrared light triggers or wire layed across the road or a triggerman actually detonating the device. not really sure what to say about that really. maybe these guys are kicking in doors and are in a built up area where they might need it. me being 11 Bravo ( Infantry ) i wish i could go kick in some doors! | |

| I am getting a box ready for GrandpaNoob72. I am thinking about some snack stuff like crakers with peanut butter, candy (LifeSavers), nuts, trail mix, and some stuff like Tang or PowerAide to mix with the water. I have not served in the millitary, so I am just asking around as to what to send. After reading this thread, I will try to enclose a few local newspapers, and some AA bateries. I have no problem at all sending the stuff, I just don't want to waste my money on stuff GPN72 and his troops don't need! I am getting some help locally also. A local DJ at a radio station is going to burn me a 'best of' CD of his show. Well, the show is funny to me, but who knows! Any ideas are appreciated. Sorry for my error, looks like the link was provided by Seyklopz. That is what I get for trying to think on a weekend... Eric I hate when the noobs don't read the previous threads... Like myself. Sorry. Last edited by Fred_G; 24-March-07 at 09:36 PM.. Reason: info | ||
