so i was woken up by a phone call from my wife at 6am this morning. no biggie. lasted a whole 5 mins and i went back to sleep. i was somewhere between awake and half alseep when i heard this boom.

well i throw on my pants and a tshirt and my sandles and walk over to the piss tubes to do my business before going up to the burm to see what was going on. well.... as im at the tube reaching into my pants, i hear this sound whistling through the air. sec later kaboom!! on the otherside of the burm and about 30 feet away is where the 2nd motar round landed. well needless to say, my ass ran to the nearest bunker where we holed up for a short time and then took our defensive postures.

but WTF, why couldnt haji let me sleep in this morning. the nerve of him!!


isnt the first time i have been in a mortar attack. thank god this one didnt last long. just a nerve wracking thing to happen because there isnt a thing you can do while it goes on, except bunker down.

well its now 11am and i sont think this day is going to be over soon enough.

where do you live ???

currently i reside in Iraq. im down in the southern part right now. been here for 18 months now and waiting for grandpanoob to come replace me!

this pic is of the one that landed by me. there must have been about 10 or so rnds all together. im thankful there was a burm between me and this one tho.

EOD showed up and are pulling in all the scraps from each one. turned out these are 107mm Rockets. ehh, what do i know. doesnt matter to me if it is a rocket or mortar. im Infantry, and i do what everyone else does when you hear them come in, run for cover and pray and whatelse you need to do.

ill have pics up soon of the casings once we get them all recovered.

Brother I have been in your shoes before in the same place but in a different time. I was there during desert storm so I know what you are going through. Assigned to a SF unit doing the normal forward tactic thing that SF does best.
Keep your head down eyes and ears open and come home safe.
