The little piggie that built his house of straw was a bit disappointed EDIT: Sorry, but strawbale is a bit of a joke to me. Sure, you can fill walls with cottage cheese and gain thermal mass, but you can't get structure from strawbales. It makes me wonder why folks call it "strawbale" housing. It's technically a timberframe with random filler. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| There are structural straw bale construction methods. Standard supports 600 pounds per foot and recompressed bales can support over 1200 pounds per foot. I'm not using straw for it's thermal mass, rather for its insulating properties. My thermal mass will come from stone and brick internal walls and floors. | ||

| Holy Sh!t dude. Don't buy that for that much. lol Move to NC we have major citys and cheap homes. My parents bought a house a year ago 25min from the charlotte boarder w/ 35acres 2300sqft 4bd 2bth w/ a pond. Guess how much? $163,000 Yup thats right and it was built in 2002. I have 1.8 acres right near the east boarder of charlotte 3bd 2bth for $98,000 when i bought it but now (3 years later) it's worth $148,000 do to the rapid expansion. | ||

| Yeah, such is the cost of living in a resort area, but the high prices for housing make my prices for carpentry work seem pretty reasonable. I am not known as the discount carpenter. ![]() Wages in this area are still a bit behind though, so most of the houses being built are with money imported from other states, not made locally. We're working on that. | ||

Built in 1840s, 3x6 full oak studs in the walls.. 3 floors, 7 fireplaces, + widow's watch, full basement, carriage house. Bought for $125k, sold $175k.
