| I'm running everything stable and I know I shouldn't be unhappy with taking an Opteron 165 and getting another 1 GHz out of it but, I can't help feeling like I could benefit from some of the pcApex "Pros" taking a look at my BIOS screens. I'm running the following: AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.8GHz with Tt BigTyphoon DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert (Merlin's 11/04/2006 BIOS) 2GB OCZ Platinum Edition PC4000 3-3-2-6 My temps, under load (running F@lding or SuperPI), don't go beyond 47*C. Here's the important screens (if you want me to upload any other screens, just let me know): Thanks in advance to all who can provide any assistance. -hartigan Last edited by hartigan; 02-February-07 at 06:37 PM.. | ||

| Drop LDT/FSB multi to 3 as your current HTT Speed is way too high. It's be (308x4)x2=2464 ATM and it isn't supposed to be over 2000 (stock) overall really. So setting it to 3 would give (308x3)x2=1848, and you might be able to go one from there. Hope you understand my slightly drunken ramble. | ||

| Well, I tried to bump it from 311 to 320 after dropping the LDT/FSB ratio to 3 but I wasn't able to get into windows. It would post but that's it. I've been told the stepping I have is pretty weak and doesn't go much past 2.8 but I was hoping I could defy the stepping's reputation and get a bit more out of it. I'll see if I can recall what stepping it is. -hartigan | ||

Thanks!! Gave that TRP3 a try to no avail. Can't find my stepping anywhere either and I've removed the IHS and threw it away a while ago. I think it has something like UPWE in it. I'm not sure. ADD: I found it . . . CCWBE 0607UPGW (i think?) -hartigan Last edited by hartigan; 02-February-07 at 07:25 PM..

| This was mainly for Socket AM2, but most of the principals apply to 939 as well and it explains some whys in the process. LostCircuits, Tech Advice Guide | ||

I'll give all three of those a try right now. Thanks for the link godfoot, great reading!! ADD: Bummer, those settings offered no addtl gains to the FSB. I genuinely think I'm at the peak of this processors clock. Last edited by hartigan; 03-February-07 at 03:14 PM..

| Not trying to sound defensive but . . . BETTER? RAM. The RAM I've got is pretty damn good. Most people are able to hit 600MHz on these. here's the OCZ site for them . . . OCZ Platinum PC4000 DDR If you can suggest RAM that's better I'll take a look at it. Most people, when I was building this system confirmed that I was getting really good RAM. Let me know what you could suggest though, I'm always open to change. -hartigan ADD: THESE are a little bit too pricey for me but I'd imagine they may do a bit better. | ||
