Default Should I flash my BIOS?

AMD 2800+ Barton
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Corsair XMS (2x) 512mb PC3200
Crappy PSU
other things that don't matter...

I just purchased a TT Volcano 12, and it kicks ass. I'm now able to maintain really low temps, so I've finnaly started tweaking my voltages. The only thing that troubles me is the lack of certain options in my BIOS. This mobo is an nForce2 motherboard, so I would assume it would allow me to change chipset voltage, but I can't seem to locate that option anywhere. I am also saddened that the stock multiplier (12.5x) is also the max. If I were to flash my BIOS would I see either of these options appear?

I am not familiar with that board. I did find a link to a modded BIOS that supposedly 'unhides' some options. bios mods for a7n8x-deluxe rev. 1.04, and 1.06 - PC Perspective Forums

Note: Use a moded BIOS at your own risk! I found that site using Google, know nothing about it. Do some research into different BIOS for your board before you do anything.

Is your CPU multiplier unlocked? I am not an o/c master, but I think you would do better with a lower multi and higher FSB.

And to point out the obvious, 'crappy psu' and voltage increases do not belong in the same post! I finally learned this a year or so ago. It is tough to shell out the extra money for a good PSU, but it is the best way to go. I wasted a ton of time trying to chase down odd crashes and such with my first o/c PC, it was the cheap/crappy PSU! And if you are planning to upgrade in the next year or so, get a nice PSU with SATA, PCI X, and a 20+4 power options, and use it on a new build.

Good luck.

Good tip, I was actually planning on doing this pretty soon. I'll have to give the lower multiplier a try, and I don't think I'm going to flash my bios...it just doesn't seem neccesary, and I'm going to upgrade soon anyway.
