Default ram for a Opteron

howdy ya'll
recently i dumped my AMD 3500+ in my dvr/gaming rig and my old DFI Lanparty Expert SLI is lonly and wants companionship...
since its a monster DFI i wanted to get her a cpu and ram that would ocing like a mofo
being that the opteron 165 is teh cheapest 939 dual core on newegg seems good
only problem i have no idea what kind of ram to get it
i have 2gb in my dvr
OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum
so question is should i use the ram i have or buy some better ram(maybe like PC4000) for my new operton?

I have some OCZ EL DDR PC-4000 Plat. and they run very well with my opty 146 at 3.0 ghz.

I would stick with what ya got unless you run into a problem.

I have the Corsair xms 2gb pc4000 kit running on my DFI board and the opty 146 running at 3ghz. Seems to do just fine for me. I would think the ram you and IcEMage are looking at would be just as good other than the speeds differences.

You could always try some G.Skill HZ, i use it with my opty 165 & DFI expert & it'll run @ 272mhz or some Mushkin ram
Here's a link which might come in handy

I would have to guess he runs it at 3-4-4-8. I have the same memoey and run it at 275mhz 3-4-4-8 all the time. That is the memory I would suggest

not my gaming rig because i dont have my cpu yet but my dvr is acting up
i usually have this thing on 24/7 folding
the thing has a 7600gt so sometimes i like to play css or something on it
after about a half hour of gaming screen freezes and last sound i hear repeats and my pc restarts
it is either a ram problem or a psu problem
i have the ram listed above in my first post and my psu is the ****ty stock one from the Apevia X-QPACK
also my motherboard is mad weird has no voltage options in it
here's a link to it GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview

Most likely its the power supply, cheap ones take a crap after they build up some heat!

You can test the ram with Mem Test, its attched to my "Ultimate links collection" as a zip file.
