Default breaching the envelop?

OK, ive been trying to OC my athlon XP 2000+ (1666Mhz stock) to 2500Mhz (12.5 x 200Mhz), but ive hit a wall, i cannot go any higher then 2.1Vcore in BIOS (posably needs 2.2 or 2.3). I was wondering wether i can mod the mobo or CPU...
I was looking thrugh the forms, and i came across this which made me think this could be a failed goal...
http://forums.pcapex.com/amd_cpu_mot...ht=voltage+mod

The Mobo is a KX600 Pro form Albatron Albatron---Captures the spirit of the Albatross

Any ideas? or give up?

Ps: no, i cannot aford a better motherboard, i am seriosly lacking any cash to burn on things unter then the ecentuals and food...

How is the vcore implemented? If it's a "stock, stock + .1, stock + .2" style setting, you might be able to get another boost by wiring the right bridges to indicate the default voltage is higher.

I am betting voltage is not the problem, I can bench Super Pi at 2.7GHZ with just under 2v with my Mobile 2500+ when the ambient temps I duct into it are low enough.

It's most likely your cooling, what kind of 100% load temps are you getting now?

Check out this thread to see how I got these temps in the pic below...

http://forums.pcapex.com/project_wor...p_freezer.html

Using anything more than 1.8-1.9v in general on XP's will result in load temps over 50c on mid to high end air cooling..generally watercooling is needed for 2v, and "Extreme" cooling ("Sweet air" Phase Change, Dry Ice or LN-2) is needed for 2.1v and above.

A few more "Tips" may be found in this thread

Well, at 192Mhz fsb, it was hitting 60*C (and 1.9V). Im using a stock heatsink with a 120MM fan straped to it.
I did have a good Tt heatsink, but thats straped to another system, and is in use, even that is reaching the 40-50*C mark at stock speed (2600+)

and before you ask, yes i am using thermal gunk, orthough i can only use non-conductive type since i have a nice masive chunk missing form the corner of the die (well, i had the silver stuff on there, and it just almost dyed every time i used to much prosessing power, 90%~)

Um....60c is WAY to hot for OC'ing!

The stock HSF needs to go in the trash if you want a good stable OC, and skip the Thermaltake too!

ThermalRIGHT SP-97 is what I use, and it's probably the best you can find for the XP, it is the only one to use heatpipes AFIK...Ebay/For sale threads would be the only place to find one now however.

They are a bit rare these days, but you might be able to find one the Thermalrights without heatpipes fairly easily and cheaply.

eBay: Thermalright SLK-900a socket a heatsink (item 180048481057 end time Nov-14-06 21:08:32 PST)
eBay: Thermalright SLK-900u socket a heatsink (item 180048484826 end time Nov-14-06 21:24:18 PST)

eBay - thermalright, Desktop Laptop Components, Computers Networking items on eBay.com

Don't get the SI 97, it's made from Aluminum, and is kinda junky IMO

If your really broke get a tornado fan for the heatsink.
It's the cheapest route to better temps.

Vantec 80mm Tornado Computer Case Fan TD8038H 80mm PC Case Fan 80mm Case Cooling Fan-Best Computer Online Store Houston Buy Discount Prices Texas-Directron.com

It's only $12.00 US,dont forget the adapter for whatever size your heatsink is.

Pump over 100 cfm into that baby and the temps will drop significantly.
Of course so will your hearing from the hairdrier like shriek coming from your case.

Unless you get some uber cooling going on soon your cpu is gonna die from temps like those.

EDIT Hi Necro : )

EDIT Hi Necro : )

That is the fan I use on my XP rig...and it USED to be realy loud until recently, I found a place to get 25 watt Rheo's for 2$ locally! (I can get more for anyone that want them)

Check out the thread I linked on my XP rig in my above reply, I have some pics of it (Looks like its WW-2 "Vintage" )

Oh...and Helllllloooooo der' RBIEZE!

Woohoo, US stuff... well, thats usefull when im in australia... wait, i dint mention that, ehem...
Well, im planing to mod one of them stockies into a waterblock, but i really have no idea on what to do there, wether to drill holes thrugh the fins for the pipes, or slice the fins off and make tracks though base... and i'll leave that for another part of the fourms i guess.

Anyway, out of my OC'ing experiance, the system will POST on the 12.5 x 200Mhz (2500Mhz) but it wont boot windoze / linux. the voltage at 2.1V will run the 12.5 x 192Mhz (2400Mhz) stable.
ohh, and i have legend brand memory, so i cannot get it over 409Mhz, but thats not my problem, i increace the devider.
...and the timming of the T thingys on the ram, i can never get it, so i don't touch that...
