| Managed to get into windows at 2470MHZ with 1.95v core But it crashes after about 15 minutes once I run a few applications... 2450 is stable at 49c idle, can surf the net, if I run Folding@Home then temps hit 56c pretty quick This is about the best I am gonna get on air, maybe someday I could push it to 2.5GHZ with some H20. Anything I can do, other than Watercooling, to help get it stable at these speeds? I have all extra services turned off in windows, and everything in the Bios is disabled (fastwrites, cpu throttling, spread spectrum etc..) and the memory timings are in "turbo" mode 2.0 3,3,6 since I am not pushing anywhere near the max of my memory. Whats the most "Unstable" overclock you have gotten too? How much higher is it then what you normally run at? Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 04-September-03 at 11:43 PM.. | ||

| Only thing I can think of with air is to get your ambient temps down some and get a better heatsink, such as a SLK and then a Tornado or other high-output 80mm fan. That should get you stable. Also you might want to try underclocking your RAM, maybe setting the CAS to 2.5 or so and see if that makes any difference. | ||

| I plan on trying Nanotherm and and maaaybe a new HSF, but I don't think that heat is the only issue. Did the Volt Mod to the chipset add any stability for you Chrome? I think I can get the heat under control if I could use less voltage than 1.95v to the core. One other odd thing I forgot to mention, at those speeds MBM and CPUZ numbers float around alot, one second it says I have 2470, then shows it as 2330, and the voltages move up and down a bit at the same time(except the Vcore) I am just using a surge protector, no line conditioning. Is there a less expensive way to stabilize the power coming from my house? Most decent back up power sources with line conditioning start at 100$ | ||

| yes the volt mod helped tremendously that is how i got 227 on the fsb. do you know what is involved in the voltmod? in bios it is set at 1.7 on the NB voltage and i am getting around 1.85 actual going to it. i have a 50k pot soldered going fron the 3.3 on the board to the volt out off the NB voltage controller. if you need help with it let me know. you have to have EXECELENT soldering skills and a good quality DVM. | ||

| I have read a few articles on volt mods in the past, not specific to my board, My soldering skills are average, and I have a fine tip iron that would be good for such delicate work I can borrow a decent DVM, my Fluke was "loaned" to a friend that disapeared of the face of the planet ![]() I was going to wait until I get a better Northbridge cooler to try it, I assume the stock one will crap out at higher voltages. As far as a potentiometer, where would you suggest I buy it? Maybe you could get me a Employee discount from Radio Shack J/K but that is where I will probably grab one from this weekend. You know you aren't ever gonna shake that, Your sig reminds me every time ![]() Was 2.5 GHZ stable enough for Folding@Home? | ||

| well you can try radio shack, not sure if they would hve that anymore, or an old electronics surplus store. also i am running the zalman passive HS on my NB in the picture. I also added passive South bridge cooling also, found that it gets REAL hot after volt modding. so ant heatsink will do. you want to go to bios and set the NB voltage to 1.7, then with the 50k pot set to 0, using the DVM SLOWLY adjust until you get around 1.8, no more or you will burn it up. thank god newegg had a liberal RMA policy. but if you have any more questions add me to your MSN. i would love to help you with this project. and as for stable? like a rock. ran 3dmark03 demo for 7 hours like that @1280x1024, with all the eye candy turned on. | ||

| I can run 12x324 (about 3.9GHz) unstable @ 1.5 stock vCore. It boots but wont run anything that pushes cpu over 50% sustained, crash w/folding. I play Adema - Unstable whenever I do 3.9GHz because I am so unstable that when I turn on winamp visualization it crashes. ![]() ...I'll stick to my rock-solid-stable overclock of 12x284 (3.4GHz). | ||

| rock on tex. is that a B or a C P4? i was playing with a 2.8c atowork today, that thing just sucks.....only got to 240 fsb and no more, it is an asus P4800 DLX or something, my XMS 3700, and a stock HSF,both the COU and the HSF were lapped to a mirror finish, at full load for 20 minutes, never got past 38c, running at i think 3.53 or something close to that ...not to big on intels...so my figures prolly are wrong. | ||
