Was OCing and ran into a problem

Well, I was changing the FSB speed from the default 171 on my AMD Athlon XP 2600+. I got it to 180 running fine. speed went from 2.1 to 2.28 Ghz. THen i tried for about 187 with Core voltage at 1.80. and i exited the BIOs when I was logging into XP multicolored scares came up. I forgot the technical term for these but that happened a while back because of my graphics card getting to hot. But this time it was for the CPU

.... I couldnt see what was happening on the screen... multicolored squares everywhere...like the graphics card was overheating. yet it wasnt....

or to finish that off, WHAT can i do to FIX it so i can get a decent overclock...

WooHoo, you found a CPU with the default speed of 171? Tres cool, where did you purchase it? I want to score one to review for PR. That is extremely rare. Especially since AMD never made any. You got a gold mine on your hands bro!

ummm BA i am pretty sure it was 171, thats where it was at when i went to go overclock. to bad i lost the address from the place i bought it. I can do some digging on my old computer the one I searched for everything on. i will get back to you

If its a barton core, its 166(for earlier bartons, 200, for later), tbred, 133. I have never heard of AMD making a 171fsb chip before. Sounds more like settings in the BIOS where set to that, than having a 171fsb cpu

RESET YOUR CMOS. Those squares happen to me when I push my little 2100+ too hard, just use common sense. I always recommend you dont FSB overclock unless you have locked PCI and AGP Bus speeds @ 33 and 66mhz respectivley. Otherwise your other option is Multiplyer overclocking if your 2600+ has an unlocked multiplyer. ROFL swanny your BIOS was messed to begin with, it was overclocking it from the start. 2600+'s have speeds of only 2.083ghz so I have no clue where you were getting 2.1ghz from. Sounds extremely ****ed up to me buddy.

Swanny, change the FSB to either 133 or 166. Better yet, reset your bios by selecting the safe settings in your bios and let's start over.
