DFI is THE BEST for Overclocking, there are some ASUS models that do very well, but for the hardcore crowd that likes to tweak everything, nothing can touch a DFI.

Is there some specific reason you are going for 939?

AM-2 is slightly faster at the same clock speeds, and has a much longer upgrade path, it looks like it will support Quad core and DDR-3 when they come out eventually...

The AM-2 CPU's are overclocking VERY nicely (3GHZ seems to be rather common with good cooling) much better than your average 939 CPU (Short of the Opterons)

If you want a good board and don't plan any hardcore overclocking ASUS is your best bet, but if you like to realy push thing hard, I would get the DFI LP SLI D like I use, or the Expert version (The expert has a few glitches with memory compatability though, so choose RAM carefully)

If you do go the AM2 route I would recomend using a Biostar motherboard. They are incredibly good at oc'ing and are cheap to boot. Short of blowing a ton of money on a DFI or top of the line Asus theres nothing that can beat it. (AFAIK anyways )

I'm partial to things that are quiet or can be modded to be quiet.

If you're going to overclock then go with a DFI LanParty UT with Nvidia SLI or a MSI Neo4 Diamond SLI. both can be modded to be more quiet, but would cost $10-$40 depending on the air cooling mod.

If you're not going to overclock you could go for the Asus A8N-SLI Premium for the silent cooling.

DON'T Buy a S939 system.

This is a good o/cing board for AM2

I'm still inclined to recommend a Conroe/Allendale system, better preformance.

Zaltan, If he were building brand new system and did not have any parts to begin with, then yes, I would reccomend Conroe first, then AM2.

But he allready has an X-2 CPU, and does not have alot of money to spend.

939 is still a good viable platform, and still makes for a fast gaming computer, it should be good for another year or two before it becomes so slow that he needs to upgrade.

You can spend lots of money on a fast CPU, and stick a medium to slow video card in it, and it will not play games well, or you can save a bit of money on the CPU and spend it on a good video card..that will kick the other ones ass any day of the week!
