Default Core Voltage?

Ok, so heres the deal: my athlon xp 2000+ was running at 46C on startup and would reach 50C at full load on a regular basis (my case temp hung around 27C). Like many others, im using a ThermalRight Sk-7 heatsink with Arctic Silver 3. The only difference was that others were getting temps significantly below mine. So what could've been the problem? I decided to play around in the BIOS after reapplying the AS3 and seeing no change in temp. What i did was lower my Core Voltage from 1.75V to 1.6V and it brought my temps down to 44C at full load.

Is this a safe solution in my case? do i risk damaging my processor? can i lower the voltage to maybe... 1.5 and run at even a lower temp?

Thanks

what kind of fan are you running?

and with the lower voltage... it's safe for the equipment, but the cpu might not run stable.

Have you updated your bios? Your bios might be showing your temps to be significantly higher than they really are. And I dont think that your AS3 should be transparent. That might be getting too thin.
