Default Safe Temps...

Just wondering what people thought the highest "safe" temp would be for a processor (Barton 2500+ if you want a name)

just asking b/c I'm running at 45 C full load ATM and I'm not sure if thats too hot or if I have some headroom to hit 2.3 ghz

thanks in advance

I use 55c as my absolute top limit.

Most of us like to stay below 50c.

I strive to stay below 45c.

Amen. Let it be our temp guide, for it is good.

No, really, that is where I try as well, and I have a Barton.

Anything I have, stays below 45c, or something is seriously wrong.
My overclocked 1700 runs at 33c. So.....

It all depends on the cooling situation as well. Duck has lots of neat things to cool with. I have a Thermaltake Volcano 7+.

I am air cooled at the moment.

Running 38c 100% load on a XP 1700+ oc'd 600MHz to 2070MHz.

What is your cooling setup?

I'm afraid to ask, that my pocketbook will run away...

I just noticed my new title.

Thanks Duck!

Edit: It is a Thermalright SK7 ($39.99 CDN locally) with an 80mm Sunon Fan 36 CFM @ 32 dB ($10 CDN locally).

You could get the same HS at SVC for $19.99 US, and a similar fan for $8 US.

I have the same chip and I get kinda twichy at 40C tops, not because the chip can't take it...but that would mean somethings up with the cooling system itself....The core we have at a 166fsb and a 11 multi with 1.75vt core voltage shouldn't be run past the max operating temp of 85C. (AMD factory specs)

i like to stay under 46c in the summer: ambient 28c
and in the winter under 35c in the winter: ambient 18c
that's with a higher overclock in the winter.

I'm also with the 55c crowd..

AMD states that system instabilty can occur at 60c.....

I was runnin' damn near 60C (57-58) at load on my air cooled 1700 setup for about 4 months. It's running 48-49C load on the new water chilled setup. I'd say your fine at 45C.

I always want my ambient to be at 20C. That is good for me and my comp. My CPU has a temp of 38C on full load. I get scared if the temp goes above 40C and bust out the box fans and wet towels.
