| Came across this handy little chart over at Tank Guys, for those obsessed Overclockers who would like to know exactly what they mean FYI: Tank Guys is one of the few sites where (Other than EBAY) you can pick your CPU by stepping! http://www.tankguys.biz/steps.php EDIT UPDATE: If you all ready have your CPU installed, you can use a handy tool called CBID (Central Brain Identifier) to see the "Born on Date" and OPN* number for your little speed demon *Note: see post #15 for more info about the OPN! http://cbid.amdclub.ru Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 06-July-06 at 08:16 PM.. | ||

| Great post! It should be a stickie. All of five minutes ago I didn't know what steppings were. I don't mean to be a pain, but CBI is showing a D for the Core / Cache indicator. It's not a 2.0Ghz. It's a 3500 (2.2Ghz stock). Im planning to "freshen up" my thermal paste soon, so I'll make a point to check the heat spreader but I guess I just wanted to ask here, too. In the "Features" section, it says that dual core support is a "No." Oh, +rep, by the way | ||

Ok..there seems to be a bit of confusion when using the number from CBID in my earlier post, thanks for bringing this to light! This is the "OPN" number (AMD part number) wich is way different then the actual code/stepping printed on the CPU! I must have a "Dual Core" Sempron then! Anyways, to make it prefectly clear, the OPN can give you some info about the CPU, but I do not have the breakdown needed for that at the moment, I will keep my eyes open. The chart in the 1st post is only for decoding the CPU stepping printed on the heatspreader!

mmmm. Ok, thanks. I noticed that the CPU's name (mines the 3500) shows up in the OPN and it didn't in the steppings. I wasn't sure what I was thinking, but I do know that I was too lazy to count how long the stepping string and OPN string are. Sorry, and LOL to the "I must have a 'Dual Core' Sempron then! "

| Hmmm, I found this. Seems to be a guide to decode your OPNs. Im going to check it out, but I thought I'd post it first. http://www.amdboard.com/amd64_opn.html EDIT: yeppers, it works! I think I'll write it up for here. | ||
