Unlocking?

I was reading reviews for mobos on HardOcp and came across this review on an MSI, the guy says "Having had such good fortune working with motherboards that unlocked the CPU as of late"

Do some mobos unlock the chips Mult for you? Or am I mis understanding this guy?

I don't think that the mobo unlocks the CPU per se, but rather, many of the newer athlon CPUs are unlocked, and the new mobos are equipped to take advantage of it.

Certainly, any thoroughbred B core on an NForce2 platform will allow multi adjustments right out of the box.

yep, but if you have a kt333 (don't know about kt400) you can't adjust them without manaully unlocking the multi even with a factory unlocked proc. My 2400+ couldn't be adjusted in a kt333 but i got an nforce2 now and i can adjust it.

I know, my IWill XP 333R (ali Magik chipset), which should be here any day now, won't allow adjustments of my T-bred 1700+ without unlocking ....... even thought the proc is unlocked already.

My Soyo KT400 has every option available and working(except for the 1/6 divider, but that's with all the KT400's). It must just be a KT333 thing

even with the boards letting you pick the multi, some don't read the entire chip to you are stuck with either 13and up or 12.5 and under.

on my kt333 i can change multi, fsb, and vcore with out having to unlock.
