| I got a JIUHB 1700+ and I am having trouble figuring out something. the numbers are AXDA1700DLT3C 959103728199 JIUHB0319WPMW Now I looked this up on the little identifier app online (the demo of course, I don't have $20 to spare) and whenever I see a screenie of this page it tells you what the chip was downgraded from (supposedly). Now mine had no mention of this so does that mean it was meant as a 1700+ all along or that I do not have the regged version of the app? Also do you think I can get this to 2.2GHz on a 8rda+ and two sticks of (potentially mismatched) 256MB PC2700 chips? I am considering cooling with either a TMD which I might have to sell or a GC69 from SVC, so is that adequate cooling? Don't worry, I don't intend to keep this more than say 7 years so lifespan shouldn't worry about too much, after all, my 1.33GHz Athlon ran @ 90C load and 666C with the HSF mismounted *grin* | ||

| One more thing: if I put this thing in my old K7T Turbo (not Turbo 2) which only goes up to 1.4MHz on an Athlon and I dunno what on an XP, will it work? I have PC133 on that thing, and if it is too fast, will it underclock? The BIOS is not updated, and supports no OC options. | ||

| Rather than posting three consecutive posts, use the edit button to add new info to your original post. Also, please try to use paragraphs for easy reading! Your chip is excellent, and that whole "downgraded from" nonsense has been proven a fallicy. The chip should hit 2.2 with no problems on your 8rda+, however, anyone who has been at this awhile knows enough to make no promises or predictions ....... too many variables! If you wish to overclock you need matched ram, period. By "mismatched" do you mean different models / brands? Or do you mean two identical sticks that did not come as a twin or dual pack? If you meant the former, I would suggest ram shopping. The SK6 is the superior HSF. If you can muster the extra $10, the SK7 has been my top price / performance pick for a long while now! Your MSI board supports Palominos up to 1800+. It has no support of Thoroughbreds. Your 1700+ thoroughbred will not run on that board with any bios. | KayinStorm: but I may have to sell the TMD for some RAM and a cheaper HSF (and i will make a duck leading to the 120mm fan on the back of the case, so the nice TMD wont be used) Putwig: by mismatched I mean I cant afford them both at the same time, so I was going to get whatever was cheapest at the time I got the first, then later when I get the second whichever is cheapest (which may be a different brand and i might get 2700 and 2100) | ||

| I think by TMD fan he means a Vantec Aeroflow HSF (which includes the TMD fan. There would be no point combining 2100 with 2700. You may as well save the cash and get all 2100 (because you can only run as fast a the slowest stick). If you wish to overclock that proc over 2.0 Gigs you will need at least pc 2700, and likely pc 3200 ram. You will never get a very good overclock using the cheapest ram you can find. It just doesn't work. If you would like some high quality very overclockable pc3200 ram for a very reasonable price let me know via pm. | ||

| Even so putwig, that HSF is $20... stormshaman, would you care to explain how $20 can get you more/better/matched ram? Yep, try selling the PC2100 somewhere and get another stick of exactly whatever your PC2700 is, if its good, is it? ![]() Perhaps you should just sell both sticks and pick up some matched Hi-Quality ram, if your really going to overclock bigtime that is... | ||

| http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....0&pagenumber=1 This guy says he was able to go to 2.4GHz with 2700, think I could do it if it was not mismatched? of course, he had the SLK-800 not the SK-7+ but think I could go to 2.2GHz? Also does it matter that I have a nforce 2 not a nforce 2 Ultra 400? Should I get a diff board under $82 that is nforce 2 Ultra 400 (hint: check newegg there are not that many) I really cant pay more tho ![]() | ||

Ah I skipped the word "potentially" of "potentially mismatched memory" but you werent clear on whether you have the 8RDA+ or not; if you dont, then I would buy one first priority, then ram. Two of these would be good. 256MB Corsair XMS CAS2 PC2700 for $48@NewEgg.Com

| putwig: that IS nforce 2, just a different kind of nforce 2. should i get the high-end (nforce 2 Ultra 400) or the low end (nforce 2)? TekXoID: I am just trying to plan in advance, and I actually think I might know of a better deal on RAM, as I can't afford $96 but I am wondering will my motherboard affect whether PC2700 can OC to 2.4? I know that one guy recently posted that he got 2.4GHz with that RAM, but he had a better mobo than me. | ||

| id bet alot of money that your 8rda can handle 200mhz fsb, i mean my kt400 can reach well over 200mhz fsb... too bad i dont have the memory to see where it tops out at... that epox board can OC just as well as any other out there its just not as loaded with features... and even with **** pc2100 ram you can still oc well above 2.4 if you have the processor to handle it... it will just perform lower and you will have to set the multiplyer really high... i used to have my system at 153 x 16.5 which is 2.52ghz and that was on pc 2100 ram... | ||

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were asking if you should get a cheaper board rather than the NForce 2. Basically, the "ultra" boards will give you 200FSB support, and in general a more mature bios out of the box. No, one here is going to gaurantee you will get any overclock out of any gear. You buy what you can afford, and see what happens. If you are using pc2700 you should definately be able to get to 11 x 166 or 1826 MHz (this is the rams rated speed), everything above that is gravy. When overclocking an NForce board you can be limited by CPU, Ram, Cooling, or PSU. It is impossible to predict how those things will come together!
