i see so many people here talking bout athlon... but why i dont seem to understand?

if right now i can get a p4 2.8 ghz with a 800 mhz fsp and 512 cache why would i want athlon?

is it magically faster even tho it clocks at speedslower then that?

or is there something special about motherboards?

even tho mine supports 4 gigs of memory and like a terra of hd...

just dumb and curious.


*btw i just compared what i can get for the same price, the only magor difference between the 2 pcs is with the athlon based one id have money to get a 120 gig hard drive which makes no difference to me but compared to my other option (both cost the same) thats its only good thing. While the other pc has better processor, and me myself only need like 40 but with other i get 80*

Athlons do more work per-clock-cycle then Intel's, basically this means that athlons have more punch for every megahertz, I'd have to agree they are a alot better then an intel of the same MHz rating.

its ok... i never needed to know this info my pc never ****ed p and now it did and i need a solution. So sorry if im acting noobish. But what computer do u reccomend me getting

a Intel 2.8 ghz with HT tech and a 800 mhz fsb 512 cache
with a dvd writer
512 meg ram ddr
80 gig hd 2 meg cache

or a athlon 2700+

also please tell me if im gonna have to do nechanges to my system to make the athlon better. i mean if i sat both pcs one by one which one would be better.

If you are looking for basic PC info, do some googling first. You will find what you need, in a hurry. If you don't care about comps other then when they just screw up, search for another website.

In my personal experience, AMD's feel faster & respond faster than a higher clocked system. I had a vanilla system w/a palamino XP1900+ (266fsb) at stock speed and at work I had a P4 2.4 (533mhz fsb), the rest was the same speed (ram, hdd, mobo nothing super high performance) and it pissed all over the P4. Don't take my word for it go to gateway and take both machines for a test drive, see what you like.

Athlons are faster because they do twice as many operations per clock cycle. This means its the lil kid carrying TWICE as many books as the dumb kid. The chipsets are better to..... GRANITE BAY SUCKS!.... Ok im better now.. anyways if you dont buy an nforce 2 board Ill come over to your house and beat up your dog (kidding). Anyways get a ep-8rda+ with an athlon 1700+ jiuhb and 512 megs of dual channel geil memory... then you have to cut the side out and install a window.... then you have to paint it pretty colors.... then you have to put cool lights all over it
then maybe you can come hang out with us.. See we are like the group of kids in highschool.... with the NICE cars..... If you run with an pinto AKA pentium... I dont care how nice the paint is you cant hang lol

lol guys u say im an idiot, once again i had a real sucky pc and it was my dreams to get a NEW ONE but i never could. long time ago i was real into this stuff, but i figured im making myself misearable doing this. Day by day new processors,video cards and awseme games came out and i couldnt do ****. Because this old crap was celron and a compaq

and my cousing bought one of those emachines and now he curses the day he made the choice, i told him not to i told him celeron is crap but he said ah it runs a 1 ghz+ itll be fine. Now he cant even burn a cd and chat at the same time

i know from my post expierence that celeron blows, but sure insult me if u want i dont care. Now that im buying all these pieces and parts in 2-3 weeks ill have my pc and im glad. And now ill learn, and one day ill prove to you all that i aint as stupid as i sounded.

And drop that geforce card, and get a Radeon 9500 pro, mod it, get a 9700 pro. Most 9500 pros can be software modded, depending on what drivers you use. I recommend for all cards(nvidia, ATI) to use the Omega Drivers. http://www.omegacorner.com/ I got the radeon version of those drivers, speed increase and slightly better quality.

For mobo, the Asus A7N8X, or the MSI K7N2G are the two best boards. The msi is red, so its cooler.

Processor, the XP1700+ tbred JIUHB code one is the best, or the AIUHB XP2000+ isnt too shabby

Memory Kingston TwinX dual channel ram is pretty good.

And get a good high quality PSU! Ask others around here for the best one. The Enermax ones are pretty good imo.
