How much do 2000+'s cost these days? Or at least, what's left over after you're buying the CPU?

Not enough. Check NewEgg's refurb section, Chaintech's mATX, Biostar's mATX...

Anyone else know who makes a good mATX board-they're usually a lot cheaper.

BTW, what are you gonna use this for?

Holy cow man. 100 bucks isnt nearly enough for a good mobo+cpu combo. I would say go with a 1700+ for 42 bucks and a ECS K7S5A Pro 2.0 for 49 bucks. It wont win any speed awards, but its under 100 bucks.

Heres the link for the motherboard at newegg.com : http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...A+PRO+USB+2%2E

And here it is for the processor : http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alue=4159,3896

Thanks. Always look at refurbs, but i think that the 1700 is a better choice in your current predicament. Check the sig-it aint bad...

My recommendations are in no particular order:

1. ECS/Elitegroup K7SEM
2. ECS/Elitegroup K7S5A
3. Epox 8RDA+
4. MSI KT3 Ultra2 (I have this, $40 more than other cheapo boards, but it is the best motherboard I have owned to date in terms of performance/price/stability)
5. Gigabyte GA-7VAX-A
6. Asus A7V8X-X

ECS is a flimsy POS manufactuer with barely any BIOS options and tech support to rival that of enron (if they did tech support )

One suggestion:
Epox 8RDA

The "+" has more options but when it comes down to it the Epox 8RDA and the Epox 8RDA+ are equal in performance. But since it cost's the same for the both of them I suggest you go with the "+" before newegg jacks the price up

Epox 8RDA@Newegg.com for $85+$5 Shipping
Epox 8RDA+@Newegg.com for $85 Shipped

THE K7S5A at frys is not a crap board.... it can handle up to a 2600+ but only 266 fsb. it is a horrible overclocker, but you are definatley getting more than you pay for with the frys deal.

i had that same board on my 1900+ and it worked absolutley fine, i was perfectly satified with it untill i wanted to start overclocking...

you can OC the k7s5a with a new bios, but the fsb wont go above 150mhz.... and there are no voltage adjustments
