| I am Buying some Sweeet™ upgrades in the next month or so. So I am trying to do my Research on the Best Bang for the buck SLi Motherboard. Here are the Options that I am looking at: And Yes I will be doing some OC'ing with the Motherboard I choose. The processor will be a AMD Athlon 64 X2 or a Dual-Core AMD Opteron The Video card that I will be using is a eVGA GeForce 6800 GS 256MB GDDR3/PCI-E ( that I won) And I will be buying another one as soon as I get all the other Items Bought. The Ram and PSU Is open for Ideas
Asus A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 SLI = WINNER!!!!! DFI Lan Party NForce4 SLI-DR

| Apex Techie II | Well, for Hardcore OCers, DFI is just about the only way to go. If you plan on OCing a bit but do not have the patience to fool around with about 40+ settings, other motherboards like the Asus has a good reputation for OCing with little work. As for the different DFI boards, the "Expert" version is the newest version. One of the reasons why they made another version, was because some people were haveing a bit of a hard time fitting certian hardware combinations onto the other boards. If you notice, there is more space between the PCI-E slots, so people can now use duel "Silencer" video card coolers. Also, there was some concern from some people about the Ram absorbing the heat from the CPU cooler from it being right on top of it. | |

| 3 Dfi's made ya list. And everyones gonna recommend'em due to their super oc abilities. But if you go with the asus let us know how it is. I'm planning on picking one up. Tiger is always out of stock on it tho. (their down the st from my job). Are you watercooling? | ||

| On top of DFI overclocking like a madman, the new expert has it all pretty nicely laid out now. Its a simplified version of its older little brother, and its video cards are laid out farther apart to allow for better cooling solutions while cards are in sli. Cant recommend anything else, cause thats all i know about, sorry. | ||

| The Asus "Premium" is over 200$ and the Expert is right up there in price...hardly "Bang for the Buck" since they can cost nearly double a basic OC board. They are nearly equal in performance (Over 300FSB) with the ASUS being easiest to set up....you can't go wrong with either one..I would avoid any of the other ASUS boards as they are limited to around 250FSB without a bit of tweeking. The SLI DR is probably the best deal of the boards listed, you skipped the "Infinity" series from DFI wich will have similar OC abilities of the LP series...but I wouldnt cheap out here, they tend to have a few more issues then the LP. | ||

I only asked because in my search space came into consideration due to size limits if you want to add some blocks to the cards in sli and chipset. According to BA and others... the lanparty expert allows the most room. Lots of space ![]() LOL look at the box it comes in... ![]()

| OCZ makes good PSU's i would suggest the 520 modstream, And for ram if you going to be doing some overclocking i would go with Gskill or OCZ. I'll link some links to some stuff for ya bro.. Here is some Gskill 2x1Gb Sticks. Cas = 2-3-2-5, It runs at 220Ext clock at them timmings! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231034 If you are going to go with 2x512s i would go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227211 That is well known as OCZ BH-5 and will do 2-2-2-5 at 250Mhz! You just gota have some massive voltage to get it there! Like up to 3.4V DFI boards will do so! And for a PSU i would go with this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104155 This is a GREAT PSU! The best i have ever owned... The rails on this puppy are excellent!!! Im running 2 raptors, 2 wd 250s, A 7800GT, A X2 3800+ @ 2.6Ghz, The dfi Ultra -d, 2 x1 gig sticks of that Gskill i possted above, And my rails a rock!! The 3.3v is 3.4v my 12v is 12.1v and my 5v rail is 5.2!! Well i hope that helps ya out bro! If you need anything else just post!! Matt Last edited by MaTtsPc; 20-January-06 at 08:37 PM.. | ||

I thought not all of those unlock. It's only a few out there that you can mod to sli. And.. I also thought that DFI revised it and now they don't go sli at all..... it's all I thoughts. ![]()

To my knowledge all of them unluck its 2 traces under the northbrige sink to unlock SLI and sata 2! Its the same board as the SLI its just missing the extra 4 sata connecters and they dont fill the gap for the sli under the northey sink. Matt

That isnt the box that it comes in. That is supposed to be some limited edition box set. BTW the Expert is not only liked for the more room but the better voltage regulation. This means higher overclocks that are stable.
