Default Very Happy :)

I gotta say, "Cheers" to AMD. My new 3700+ San Diego is one hell-of-a chip. Using the system in my sig, accept for the ram, I was able to reach 2.8GHz+. I unfortunately had to use some Geil Value Ram. Its not too shabby though: 2.5-3-3-6, 1T @ 224MHz. This was at a FSB of 270 and a memory divider of course. I had to run my ram at DDR266 to boot at 2.8GHz. All the same, a good showing for Geil value ram.

I could go further Im sure, but heat started to become an issue seeing as how Im using the STOCK HEATSINK! Now when I say, " issue" I mean 37*C idle~52*C load. Thats still not bad at all for stock cooling...Just too high for my tastes. This will soon be resolved with a Zalman heatsink that is on the way. I guess Ill have to be "ok" with these results until then.

Here is the Geil Value @ 224MHz: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=64566

Here is the 3700+ Sandy @ 2.84MHz w/stock heatsink: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=64570

I will post a cpu-z/superpi shot when it is approved. I havent finished testing, I intend to get some other benchmarks in when I have some time and better cooling.

All in all, Im very glad I decided to upgrade. Im sure I'm going to have alot of fun with this machine

Those are some nice OC's, man. Now, try to find the highest Prime-stable overclock, and you'll be good to go.

Yeah its running Prime95 right now actually. Stable as a rock for the last 3 hours or so. Temps are kinda scary to me though...53*C!

What kind of heat tolerances do these 90nm A64s have? Are they ok at these temps?

Sounds pretty nice, I wish that I had a san diego. Some new Geil Value is BH-5, so if you can crank up to Volts you could get some nice high speeds at tight timings out of your memory. I believe that this is the Product code that your looking for GE1GB3200BHDC, my mate picked up a set and it was doing 245MHz 2-2-2-5 at 3.2v's.

Well, looks like it's around 70 C............

Here's a couple of links........

Thanks for the links Highperf15. That eased my mind.

@Zaltan- I had bought this ram hoping to get BH-5 awhile back and didnt. Im not sure what chips are on them, but they only do cas 2 @ DDR266. Ive pumped volts in them all the way to 3.4...Nothing going there.

2.5-3-3-6, 1T @ 224MHz is pretty darn good though for $70 a Gig. Id recommend them to anyone on a budget.

53C SHOULD be ok, but the typical rule of thumb for OC'ing is to keep it under 50C. Once you get the Zalman heatsink you were talking about, you will definitely be under that limit.

Yeah thats why I was skeerd

I wouldnt normally let a processor go over 45*C. Its just all these Opteron guys are making me want to overclock...BAD.

Bit of a shame about it not being BH-5, still thats an awesome price. Its about £70 for a GB of that in the UK, so I guess you got a good deal anyway!

LMAO, I know how you feel. That's why i'm pushing to get under 30.0 in SPI 1M, because damnit I want to fit in!!!

Just an update. Its Prime stable for now, Im going to let it go overnight. Im going to throw in my TCCD and take this sucker 3.0GHz and beyond...That is...when I get this heatsink.

Notice the speed and timmings on that Geil Value ram? Its not even BH-5!
