| I decided to try my Asus mobo that I still think is fried, Iswitched out the mobo and turned er on...... nothing except for fan and black screen. Tried 2 more times, nothing. Gave up switched back to MSI mobo and restarted, well everything started up fine except for the mobo's little spkr making a sound like an ambulance siren (only started after about 30 seconds) I'm like wtf is that about? shrugged shoulders thinking the system was redetecting stuff. windows booted, mbm5 came up.... and HEART ATTACK!!!! mbm5 showing (no lie!) 195F,196F,197F,198F and that happened in about 2 seconds! Without thought I yanked the plug out the wall!! I rechecked that the wc block was on and thermal paste was there and such then noticed I installed the spring clip backwards! short end goes so that theflat spot is over the cpu block, I had it backwards. fixed that but noticed a barely audible sound like a grain of sand was inbetween the wc block and cpu? NOW what??? looked again and discovered a chip out of one corner or the cpu block that contacts the wc block. Now I'm like 2 stages beyond freaking cause I wiped the emachine hd (which is intel) and the worse part is the chipped spot is black, like fried black!!! ![]() At that point I figured I'm totaly screwed Wife will have a total COW if I lay on her I need like $200 for a new cpu! (hey I'll upgrade ) Then I figured screw it! it's friday the 13th and I always had good luck on friday the 13th (dunno I must be a hell spawn or somethin) I regooped the cpu with thermal paste (cheap crap from Radio Scrap) clamped it down correctly this time and fired it up. Here I am! temps are now 10 deg F cooler in bios and mbm5 and instead of 1.92 Gz I'm reading 1.96??? I ran sysandra's cpu stress test and faired slightly better than before!?!? ![]() To me this defies ALL logic! I have no clue what just happened but I'm not complain. I know a new cpu is now on the list for income tax refund time cause I think I just fried something but I can't find any negative effects from this??? According to AMD 180F is crispy critter cpu on a platter! last thing I saw before I yanked the cord was 199F! Do I get a hot cpu award??? (I need another beer, heck I'm gettin a shot!) | ||

| 199 F?? That's not right. Poor lil' feller. Friday the 13th almost claimed your processor, but it claimed my brand new burner instead. I only got to burn one cd on it, and it won't detect the disk now. I've spent more time trying to figure out how to get it to work than actually using it for what I needed it for. | ||

| If that lil feller hadn't tuffed it out like a champ I'd be off line for atleast a month or 2 or 3 or till I got enough $$$ saved to get the fastest cpu my mobo could handle, and atleast a gig of ram I figure if I fry somethin I gottsta come back berrter than before .maybe next time ![]() | ||
