The 4-pin Molex connector is for only if your CPU needs extra juice. My X2 wouldn't work unless I plugged that in (lights barely came on, fans would barely spin, aka not enough juice).

You have an option of plugging in one or the other, don't plug both in.

I have had both plugged in for months now. I believe Necro has both plugged in as well. Care to inform us why not to plug both in?

Because they both provide the same amount of juice for the same purpose. They are just different adapters provided to supply that juice. By plugging both in, there is probably some poor capacitor or resistor having to absorb all that extra voltage.

Both are plugged in on the DFI SLI rig I built for a friend and it runs grrreat. I am sure the DFI techs put two different connectors on there for a reason, and just about every post on DFI Street tells people to plug them both in when they're having problems. Maybe the floppy one provides GPU power and the molex provides the extra CPU power when needed, nobody really seems to know...

BA, just because you're plugging something in doesn't mean that the connectors will be forced to take on the extra power available to them. Technically, there would not be any extra voltage drawn even if they are both on the same line, only what the motherboard demands. Example, when you plug a fan in to a 12V line, it draws .25Amps and that's it... so if you're plugging this in, wouldn't it just take the amount of amps it needs, when it needs it? Someone correct me if I am wrong please.

I plug em both in, i think it was in the manual, and the floppy connector and the molex are just about the right space apart to plug both from the same line in.

Hummm well guys ive been running my system for like 2 months now and just noticed them! I have never had them pluged in and i still dont!! And i thought the 4pin molex on the board was to plug something into like fans or something small... so i tryed it and it works! Now explain that! If its sopose to take power and you put a fan on it and it powers up!

Well it was put there for 2 SATA drives if you read your motherboard manual. It is recommended that you plug them in when your overclocking.

Hmm, I guess i'll have to read the manual again, because I never saw that in there. I've hit 400fsb no problem with the board, but would it help to take it even higher?

It was originally meant for SATA drives. There is a little dongle included with the board. The floppy is for the video card to supply some extra juice if need be. I plug mine in some dont plug them in to the psu. I believe there is an article on it over at DFI-Street.

Its the 8th picture. I wouldnt argue with him considering he gets paid by DFI to run the site and give out tech support.
