| As of now, I'm about to get an AMD 64 X2 3800+ I'm getting a Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm Cooling Fan/Heatsink since I heard it was extremely quite and cools down your computer insanely allowing you to overclock the processor. And well, I want to overclock the processor insanely. I heard that RAM makes a big impact on the overclocking speed, so which RAM would you guys reccomend. As of now, I was going to get 2 gigs of RAM, but no idea what to get. So in conclusion, what RAM is best for overclocking it, and what fans are good, if mine isnt. Thank you. | ||

| The motherbaord will have a huge amount to do with how well a CPU overclocks, the top dogs are the DFI LP EXPERT and the ASUS PREMIUM SLI 16x16, both will easily run over 300FSB (DDR 600) without much fuss. The DFI LP SLI DR is a bit cheaper and OC's almost as well, easily reaching 350+ FSB in the Bios with the proper tweeking (DDR700 Speeds!) They also offer a NON SLI version for around 130$ If you have a no name board or one of the low end models from a big name company, they can be very limited in there OC ability. The X-2 CPU gets realy hot when Overclocked, more so than just a single core CPU, I have the ThermalTake Typhoon and it does a good job of handling it. http://reviews.pcapex.com/cooling/th...cpu_cooler.php I would like to eventually replace the stock fan with a higher flowing unit, it's very quiet and flows decently (54CFM with only 16DB) but I like to push things a bit, I will just use a fan controller to slow it down when I'm not http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12tfexhisp.html Watercooling does an even better job but is a bit more expensive for a good setup (200$) but that would be another thread.. Here are some reviews for 2GB kits tha do rather well

That's not as true with a64 procs as it was with the 32 bit ones. You could quite acceptably use ram not known to do high clocks (remember specfic high clocks vary from person to person) and run it at a fsb asynchronous to the core (owing to the memory controller being inside the proc of a64's). This would let you save cash on ram and still freely overclock. People are starting to come round to this way of thinking. That's right you know who you are . | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
