CPU's like yours should be able to run 2.4~2.6ghz without much trouble, I am not familiar with your motherboard though.

Below are aproximate voltages you will need for different CPU speeds, always use the least amount possible, keep the load temps under 50c or so

The stock setting for the 4200+ is 11x200 (2.2GHZ)

11x210=2310MHZ (Stock voltage 1.35v)
11x220=2420MHZ (1.35~1.4v)
11x230=2530MHZ (1.4~1.45v)
11x240=2640MHZ (1.5~1.55v)
11x250=2750MHZ (1.6v)

There are other setting you will need to change for North Bridge, Memory and LDT.
You will need to increase them to add stability as the CPU speed and FSB increase.

The NB chipset needs around 1.6v for up to 230FSB and 1.7v for up to 250FSB.
LDT should be around 1.3v for 230FSB and 1.4v for 250FSB

You will also need to change the LDT ratio (HTT speed is calculated from this number)

200FSB with a 5x LDT is 1000MHZ, you want to keep it at 1000MHZ or less, even running as low as 800MHZ will not realy hurt performance, raising above 1000MHZ will not gain performance and will decrease stabilty.

200x5=1000MHZ (Stock)
250x4=1000MHZ
300x3=900MHZ

You will also need to adjust the memory timings and voltages, but that is a bit trickier.
Generally "loosen the timings to raise the FSB, or use a memory "Divider" to keep the timings and voltages stock.

"Tight" timings CAS 2-2-2-5
"Average" timings CAS 2.5-3-3-6
"Loose" timings CAS 3-4-4-8

Most typical memory will work best at around 2.8~2.9v with the exception of memory with BH-5 chips, this can require 3.2~3.5v for max performance.

at the risk of sounding stuck up, why did you buy a $400 cpu and stick with an againg graphics card and an obsolete motherboard?

Because, like me, most of us can only afford to upgrade one item at a time. The 939 purchase will prove good for at least the next 18 months.

exactly, the prossesor was 550$ acually cause im in canada and i only had so much money to get a prossesor/mb/psu/cooling so i got a cheap msi board, and my graphics card my mom bought me 2 months ago so i stuck with it since it is still up there in the higher end cards so i had no need to upgrade that at this time

Hey, I got my X2 4200+ to run at a stable 2.933 Ghz.

Is that a pretty good OC? I can't seem to puch it any more else windows decides it doesn't want to boot

Just curious, i've only OC'ed a 3500+ before and it was from a Gigabyte program, really sucked

Did you try this EkostonS? I'd hazard a guess that your memory is the limiting factor.

Was the CPU able to handle 2.9GHZ with Prime 95 and Folding@home runing at the same time?

You need to load both cores to see if it's stable

hehe

:Edit: srry, forgot to answer your Q EkostonS
Umm, Hmmm lemme think here, i believe i have it at 266 MHz, CPu multiplier maxed at 11, and full voltage. Same with ram on the voltage. If it fries it fries, just go buy another is my motto

I thought so..mostly people that get an X-2 don't realise how much heat it will make when that second core is loaded..it caught me by surpise the first time I pumped some volts into mine

My cooling can handle it only maxed out at 35 Celsius
