Talking MSI K8NGM2-FID Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Just bought one of these motherboards from newegg.
It arrived with an engineering bios installed that ran like a turtle, took 5 minutes to post, when it finally loaded it ran fine.
Went to MSI website to report the problem, they replied with a version 3.13 of their bios, within 20 minutes, very impressive, which fixed the problem, version 3.00 was the engineering release.
I had entered the bios after the flash and found my hypertransport was turned down to 400 Mhz to both the north and south bridge, I changed the setting back to 1000 Mhz and booted the sytem, quick to boot, very happy.
I ran a small benchmarking tool that resides in AIDA32 that reported normal memory read speeds for this chipset variety, but was amazed when I performed the memory write test, it beat my oc'd 148 oppy by over 100 points !!! , using corsair pc3200 value ram and a stock 3000+ even...
I have my oppy running at 250 fsb now for 2.75Ghz..

Don't know what they did in their bios but I am very happy with the results.
Ready to start a little oc'ing experiment with this baby, perhaps an oppy swap..

Just thought I'd drop a note and inform the group of this find...

The only issue I have with this unit is it emmits some stray EMI onto my Theatrix 550 tv tuner card. Tv viewing has a few stray 'waves' that appear intermittently, had a Gigabyte board in the box that had the strange POST issue without this interference..

Enabled the Cool n Quiet feature, have to really listen to hear any noise from this box.
Unit has Tv out, I might try disabling that feature to see if it clears up, i'll keep updating as I get a few more hours on this box.

Did a clean install of MCE '05 and still have the strange wavy lines, sent MSI a report through their on-line submission. Never tried disabling the TV/out yet, will do this weekend, as long as not too much bubbly..

Prob jam a 144 oppy in here with some DDR550 from Newegg that I found, Mushkin 512Mb for 84 shipped, nice timings too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.. BE SAFE... WALK TO THE BAR OR FIND A DESIGNATED DRIVER OR USE A TAXI SERVICE.

Nice toys ya got ther bro!

The TV interference issue may be due to the OC speeds you are running, sometimes even small changes in CPU speeds can drastically affect it.

Return it to stock (Or near stock, just have to play with it a bit) and see if it goes away, if not you will have to add some extra grounding and sheilding to your case to contain the RFI emmisons

this rig has no overclocking... even installed a fresh os on this box.. tried recording to see if only effecting the output.. nada.. even installed another theatrix550 to see if it was dependant on a certain pci bus,, nada...

pullled mobo out and made sure there wasn't any conflict with case.. swapped a cooler master centurion case and same issue. I think it has something to do with MSI's TV/out feature of this board. still have to try and locate a rca to bnc cable to try and see if this output is clean.... will post results...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! HOPE ALL HAD A SAFE AND UNSOBER HOLIDAY>>>> laterzzz...
