I have a dell Dimension 8100 with 1.3Gig P4, 256 Megs memory(RIMM), 20 Gig Hdd, and an Nvidia 32 meg GeForce 2, Awe 64 running (cough, cough) Windows ME.

It has developed this totally fustrating problem of running out of memory, or so it says. At least once a day I get a error message telling me there is not enough free memory to open the program. I can usually tell when this is about to happen when I can't minimize or maximize windows. I usually have IE (version 6.0.2800.1106) Outlook express and Word open.

I'm thinking memory leak, but I'm not sure. The questions I have are:

1) is there a DOS command that I can use to release the memory?

2) Is there any way to fix this problem without having to resort to the Dell Nazi's? BTW, everyone at Dell has been so completely unco-operative, I don't even want to talk to them anymore.

As always, any comment is welcome.

win ME is your problem. It has been known for memory leaks, and just random crappiness.

ya best beat is to back up all ur stuff format and put xp on there, sense u CANT upgrade ME

I did the same computer for a friend exept he's got a SB live

I redoo is HD 2 partition & format then i install win98se onto one (c) & Winxp pro onto the other (d)

He's so happy now , he doesn't want to hear about Win ME no more (He had so much problems with it).

A very simple solution would be to add another 256 fo Ram to it. Ram is cheap and very effective way to unclog your system.

Just my 2 cents.
