Question MSI-7125 Need hints for Oppy swap.

Have the MSI Neo Platinum motherboard, MSI-7125 with latest bios, just ordered an Opteron148 to replace the 3000+ I am selling to a customer for his rig, was around 240usd shipped.
I know I will notice a performance boost right off the start with just the cpu swap, ran this 3000+ with a mild OC of just an increase in the FSB to 222, but looking for tips from others who may have more experience with this board.
Have Geil 2x1g pc3200 memory, this http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=85002-39, with an MSI 6600gt video card, NX6600GT-TD128E, and one of those 450 watt Ultra modular psu's.
There are 4 160gb SATA drives attached to the Nvidia controller, a NEC 3520a DVD/RW, and an Enermax multi-panel with fan control, memory card reader and a temperature probe all tucked into one of those shiny red Cheiftec clear sided cases.

If I don't receive any specific recommendations I will use the sticky and trial and error and report my findings here.

Also have SIS Sandra Pro 2005 and will run whichever tests are the 'norm' or requested of me.

Thanks for any and all comments or suggestions.

Forgot to mention, when I sell off the 3000+ the customer requested 2 gig of memory, if you know of more appropriate memory, around 2 gig in size that won't break the bank, please advise on that as well.. thanks again..

Default Bought memory

Just ordered a Gigaram mach 1000 2x512 DDR500 kit, GR1DD8T-K1GB/500/TCD , with Timing: 2.5-3-3-6.
Hoping that I can run the memory at 1:1 at fsb250 without any stability issues and go from there..
at 11x that will be 2.75ghz.. suppose the hyperthread should be 4x??

Sound good?

Not even a cpu cooler comment or anything..
Not even 1 comment to my post.
guess I'll have to search for a more active forum..

That MSI board is a Socket 939 setup, correct?

For a cooler, the Zalman 7000 series are your best bet. The 9500 is great if you need that extra oomph.

If the RAM is rated at DDR500, then yes you should be able to run at a 250FSB with no problem. Those timings aren't too bad either.

Yes, run your LDT (Hypertransport multiplier) at 4x, or 3x if that doesn't make it stable enough. Also, don't forget about voltages on your CPU. If it isn't stable at a stock setting, bump it up a bit.

Thanks for the reply...

yes, socket 939 with 400fsb available in bios, whether it would be stable is another issue, but at least it's there..

I was going to try the 250fsb on stock cooling and see how hot it got.. if it was over 35c idle and 45c loaded I might opt for the artic cooler freezer 64 pro, the unit with the exposed fan,v1,is only $21 on the web and it is close to the big typhoon and supposedly better than the zalman. also the first revision has .20c/watt vs .17c/watt but uses a proprietary fan with 6 year warranty.
I chose v1 over the v2 because of where the retention clips are, they are 90 degrees apart per version. this v1 would place the fan beneath the sink and blow the air upwards in my case due to how my board is designed, the v2 would take up a memory slot if I used that unit and blow air onto the voltage control circuitry on the motherboard.

i was wondering what was going on..
thought I had www.farted or something and cleared the room.

Im guessing most people took one look at your jumbled up mess of a first post and decided not to read past the first 3 words...

When asking for help, I always try to make my request as easily read as possible.

Ok, from now on I will attempt to lower the technical savvy to a level closer to your intellect.
