Default My first Opteron overclock

Well I decided to play with this system a lil bit before bed.
I may not know what most of the crap in the bios does (newb to a64) but I know a multiplier and a front side bus when I see one.
Still waiting on the good power supply but this x-connect has at least gotten me here.

Lookin' good, man. Try using an even multiplier, instead of one with an 0.5 in it. Those kind of multipliers drop your RAM speeds to lower than they should be, and reduce performance. Try running a RAM divider instead. What kind of RAM do you have?

that made absolutly no sense. why would the multiplier mess with the ram speeds?

Edit by Digi....
Stop using Jesus as an excuse for being a narrow-minded, bigoted a$$hat.

I'm sure it was from an article like this from Sudhian

http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=616

As a general rule I don't use half mutipliers, the only time I did was with my Athlon XP. The board maxed out around 260FSB, but the chip would hit 2.7GHZ, so the closest match was 10.5x255.

260x10 was not maxing out the cpu speed, and the 11x mult would only allow for memory speeds in the low 240 range.

Oh and BTW Sparky and Salt Dady....there was no need for that BS...you're both getting a major hit of neg rep from me, he didn't do anything other than post results, save your rudenesss for someone that deserves it

Using a half multiplier doesn't lower ram speeds, or performance, it just has instability on some systems sometimes.

Im not fighting with you necro but from what I understand it doesnt drop the ram speed what it does is take the FSB that you entered runs the ram at that speed then increments the FSB that is going to the processor. The reason why I questioned Ator was because he said run a ram divider instead which contradicts what he said first. First he wants Ace to run it at 1:1 then instead he wants Ace to drop the ratio? Yes later on most likely Ace would need to use a ramdivider. I personally do not use the half multipliers but am willing to do some testing.

From what I understand, with a 200fsb, if you set the mulipler at 10.5x, the CPU will run at 2100MHHZ,but the memory will not be in synch, it acts like a small memory divider and will give you the same memory scores in Sandra as if you were running with a 10x multipler.

They SHOULD be higher than a 10x, and lower than what you get with a 11x...10.5x should pretty much split the difference, but it doesn't

Maybe it was a joke. But this isn't the forum for comments like " JESUS HATES YOU".
At the very least you could have offered some advice or even an LOL.
I must be getting too old to understand modern humor...
However I stand by my edit.
Your a better member then that....you should act like it...instead of argue about this.
