Unhappy OC noob here

Hello again all xD yeah im a noob at OCing, but i really want to learn and step in OC world lol

so here's my spec

Gigabyte K8NSC-939
AMD athlon 64 3000
OCZ 1 gig gold series 2-2-2-5 2.8v (i raised the voltage in order for it to run at 2-2-2-5 speed) (oh yeah i think this mem is based on BH-5 chip which ive heard is a OC legend =/ )
PNY 6800 GT
antec truepower 430W
XP-90C heatsink

ok so here's my questions (oh god this is gonna be a long post )

i went to BIOS and i saw these options (and i have no idea what these are lol)

HT- Frequency = 1x to 5x my current is 4x
CPU clock = [200] (this is highlighted by yellow color but i cant change the value =/ idk why? anyone can explain?)
current memclock =[200] (this is highlighted by blue color, which means i cant change everything )
CPU voltage control = from 0.800v to 1.700v mine is set at 1.4v
Hammer fid control = from 5x 1000mhz to 9x 1800mhz
HT-link voltage = from +0.1v to +0.3v

and now from here, what should i do? and what things should i change? im really a noob at OCing ! and i really dont understand the post that necro made (which is stickied)

i really appreciate it guyz ! thanks in advance

ight nvm this question ! i know what hammer fid control is now ! it's the multiplier which is locked at 9x (default)

ok so i changed the CPU clock ( which i later on know it's the FSB lol im a noob) to 210 and i added voltage to CPU core from default (1.400v) to 1.425v and i could make it to windows. then i raised the FSB to 220. and it couldnt make it to windows. i raised the Voltage to 1.450v still couldnt make it

what did i do wrong here?

btw the DDR ratio is at 2:2

thanks in advance

Change the DDR ratio. That ram needs high voltage like 3.1 - 3.4 to get the super high overclocks.

ok what should i change the DDR ratio to?

and btw i dont think my mobo supports up to 3 ghz cuz on DDR voltage there are only +0.1v and +0.2v

siigghhh !!

Yeah, Gigabyte isn't exactly known for it's overclocking abilities.

If I were you, I would max out the mem voltage. Next, try to find some kind of "advanced configurations" or something like that which must be enabled in your BIOS. Look around the page where you are able to adjust the clock speeds. I'm guessing it's highlighted yellow because something is auto-configured or disabled. Check to see if there is something above the CPU clock in the list which is controlling this. Turn off "spread spectrum". Boost your CPU voltage to 1.45. Loosen your RAM timings to, say, 2.5-3-3-7, since the BH5 wants voltage to overclock with, and loosening up the timings will give you more headroom on lower voltage. Running a DDR333 setting also will keep your RAM below 200Mhz up until about a 240FSB.

Oh yeah, also, make sure your board supports a PCI/AGP lock.

Yeah if you start cramming up the FSB and dont lock the AGP/PCI lock you will end up loosing data on your drives and crashing.

ok i disabled spread spectrum, and i raised the vcore to 1.45 and umm i loosen the timing ! and i set DDR ratio to 2/1 =/ and it made it to windows. btw anyone here have any suggestions on the ratio what should i change it to? cuz im not sure about this.... and where can i find this AGP/PCI lock?

btw here's CPU-Z ss ! please someone tell me if there's something wrong with it ! PLEASE

thanks

EDIT: after i googled it ! yeah my mobo does have AGP/PCI lock

I downloaded the manual for your board from Gigabyte. According to the manual you had to go into the Bios and then go to the MB Intelligence Tweaker (M.I.T.) in order to see those option. To change the CPU frequency try going from the "Main" Bios Page to the "Top Performance" page and select enable. If you set the FSB to high and you have insuffient volt's the PC may not start but just beep or lock up. You'll need to clear the settings by unplgging power and jumping the Bios. It the jumper located next to the battery (lower right side) just move it to the exposed pin and the center for 30 sec.'s and then but it back to it's original location. Good Luck. If you need more help just ask.

Don't know if its been said yet but when you boot in BIOS on most new Gigabyte boards, you need to hit Ctrl+F1 to bring up the Advances BIOS options, which should help you out a bit.

yup i already know about that

now i need to know for the OCing ! as i changed the DDR ratio again to 2:1.66 (wait or is it 1:1.66 lol, something like that)

btw how come my current memclock decreased from 200 to 100? and i have some unanswered question from my last post

EDIT: and yeah dex i already know that too thanks anyway

Because you changed the DDR Ratio caused it to drop to allow you to overclock the cpu more.

oo ok ! BUT !! will there be a change in performance regarding to the RAM? will the ram be slower? ( i really am a noob at this lol)

thanks !

EDIT:

ok here it is the latest OC i did =/

i put the ratio down tho to 1:1.33 =/

Try setting the ram divider to 6:5 (or 4:3, something along those lines). It'll set it to DDR333 levels, and since you are at a 250FSB, you'll put the RAM slightly above 200Mhz. Loosen the timings to 2-3-6-3, or if that is still unstable, 2.5-3-7-3.

Nice job on the OC, though! My Newcastle 3200+ couldn't even do that.

When it comes to overclocking getting the overall performance up is the goal, you can take the hit of a 333 divider to get the CPU up if it boosts the overall performance.

oo snap ! i put the ratio back to 1:1.66 and i tightened the timing back to 2-2-2-5 and it's still stable now !

=D

omg this OCing is fun rofl !

Don't forget to check your temps, I wouldn't expect any problems at that speed and with the XP-90C but it's better to be safe than sorry.

You should also try using Coolbits or Riva Tuner and overclock your video card for some more kick.

my temp is now at 34C (after i played CS for an hour) i think idle is like 30-31C

and i already did OC my vid card ! but not a big change tho stock was 350/1000 and i OCed it to 395/1.08 since im on stock cooling, i dont want to push it too hard and probably cause damage to my precious baby

oo yeah btw i got a lower score when i use 3dm05 =/

at stock speed i got 4412 ! and when i OCed the vid card (before i did CPU OC) i got 4088 =/ then i changed it to 395/1.08 and i still got lower score =/ about 4200ish ! i know i think i have to flash the BIOS or something like that =/ but i dont have floppy and i dont know how to make it into bootable CD

EDIT: as im editing this, the temp has decreased to 31C lol ! xD
