Default AMD Athlon 64 3700+

Hey everyone, long time no post..

Sorry for not posting in a long time, I have been really really busy with school..

Well anyways to get back on topic...

I'm looking for a new processor to buy and I was looking at the AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor

I was looking into it, and the stats are really close to the AMD Athlon 64 FX55 San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor

With some overclocking can the 3700 san diego perform aswell the fx55?
oh by the way the 3700 runs at 1.35/1.4V while the
fx55 runs at 1.5v

So why all this hype about the Opteron 146 socket 939?
I was thinking along time ago to make an dual opteron and everyone was telling me that it was horible.. and now the change of opinion?
and I was looking up price and the
Opteron 146 socket 939 costs the same amount as the 3700..
The 3700 has a higher stock speed aswell as a low 1.35 voltage..
Would the opteron be better with the venus core for gaming over the 3700 san diego core?

I mainly just do gaming and graphic design...

I would like to see a comparison chart of the two processors..

Thanks for the advice though

Did you not read the 3ghz on air part? The opteron 146 has a stock voltage of 1.35 as well but with a little bit of voltage it will reach 3ghz on air. That is higher than the 3700 will do not to mention the retail 3700 costs 230 bucks while the opteron costs 159.

Also being that the Opteron is faster than the FX 57 when overclocked and it has a similar core that makes it one of the best gaming chips out when the Opteron is overclocked. The only difference is that stock the Opteron is slowed down for super super stability in servers also the FX 57 has all the multipliers unlocked.

thanks man.. on the specifications page it says "Likely CABYE or CAB2E Steppings"... now to me that sounds kinda fishy doesnt it?

CABYE but what is the cab2e steppings.. i havent heard of them..

the CAB2E steppings are a hit or miss on teh overclocking...some do awesome 3.1Ghz 1.5vcore or they only get up to 2.9Ghz it really depends same as a CABYE not all of them are garaunteed to hit 3.0Ghz at lower vcore....but so far i've seen a few cab2e chips do pretty darn good.
