| Apex Techie Wannabe | i recently changed my cpu fan witha copper based one. After I changed it I set the cpu mhz to preset 1666 mhz. When i exit and save I hear the post message cpu overclocked, and when i restart it opens the bios menu and ask for the cpu speed I chose the 1333 mhz preset and I stil;l get that message. Is it because I could not put the fan right or Is there anything I can do to pass that bios screen? I have amd xp 2000, asus av7333 mobo, 256 mb ram kingston ddr333. plz help. Note : My cpu temp is low 40 degrees... | |

| OK, 1st off, your CPU is supposed to be at 1666mhz so we know it isn't overclocked. That means one of two things, the mobo isn't setup right, or you don't actually have an XP2000+ chip. Let's work on the first one to begin with; Many ASUS mobos have a combination of Jumpers, switches, and BIOS settings available. And in most of them, for the BIOS to run in "Jumper Free" mode, onew or more switches / jumpers have to be set properly. Sometimes they come that way from the factory, sometimes they don't. And we don't know anything of the history of your gear, (did you buy it new ? used ? etc...) So you really need to check out your manual, and you can download one from ASUS's web site if you don't have a manual. The second issue is very easy, if you remove your HSF and look at your chip, it will have a Product Ordering code that looks like: AXDA2000DKT3C or AXDA2000DVT3C Just check that out and post it here. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I am pretty sure i have xp 2000, because windows xp recognizes the cpu as xp 2000 ,and also only xp2000 will have cpu mhz settings to 1666 mhz. I do not manually enter the value it is preset I just choose it. I bought the mobo and cpu brand new. I have used it for the past 6 months without any problems. But lately it started to overheat so I decided to change the cpu fan. I did and then this cpu overclocked message started. I looked at the manual about this message, but it sayas it will give this message if you set the speed to an unconfigurable speed, you will have this message. I keep choosing the normal 1666 mhz but it still gives me that message. I do not try to overclock. I just my comp to work normally.... I will look at the numbers for you and let u know, but I am at work right now. I willl post it tomorrow. Plz I am desperate and open to all suggestions... | |

| Unless you have unlocked the processor, your settings for that mobo should be FSB=133 Multiplier=12.5 as a default. If you unlock it, you can OC, but on that board I could never get the FSB past 148 without that error. If you are trying to set it at 166x10, on that board it is not possible. | ||

| Couple of things to try. Since you were running fine with the same board and cpu previously. Find what might have changed. Could you possibly have knocked off a jumper when you installed the new heatsink? Check your manual for jumper postions and make sure they are all in place. Next, did you use a metallic thermal compound? I'd recommend completely removing the cpu. Carefully cleaning it up with some mineral spirits or acetone, then alcohol. Make sure all the bridges are clean and free of any stray compound. Blow out the socket with canned air and reseat the cpu and hsf. Clear the CMOS, then restart with defaults in BIOS. | ||
