| Ive been out of the overclock race for some time now (no money, new job, old computer blew up) but Ive decided its worth another go. I have a DFI lanparty Ultra D board coming friday, and yesterday I ordered my first athlon 64 ever... and its not even an athlon 64 lol. Socket 939 opteron baby. People having been pulling off 2.8ghz on air, and 3ghz on water..... Known for my insane air cooled clocks... I plan to beat the watercooled overclocks with my air cooled case. Should be fun. Looking forward to posting you guys some pics.....And...... IT FEELS GREAT TO BE BACK ...... to overclocking anyways :0) Should I pull the heat spreader off? lol | ||

Well if you havent seen the threads both Solid Necro and I hit 3ghz on air with a 146 with some pretty low voltage. I dont mean to discourage you but the DFI Nf4 boards are a totally different experience. It will take a while for you to learn and tweak to get it perfect. I know that going from socket A to the DFI Nf4 I had to total relearn overclocking. Read up theres alot of guides out there. Its gonna be totally different.

Someone talks a lot of smack here..... Reminds me of someone else we used to have on the forums... **COUGH*** CHROME RUST**COUGH*** Why are you asking us if you should pull the heat spreader? you are the one "Known for your insane overclocks" hahahaha good luck bro...I look forward to you flying or dying here... ![]()

| Its like members just don't read new threads! There has been at least 2 major threads on this...yet here we go again. Enjoy you 148, I am enjoying my 146 which costs less and is runing at 3.04 stable. BTW, people have been pulling off 3.1 on air... 3.6 on phase just so you know. | Sorry if my post upset you all. I was just excited. Ill try not to be out of line. I never said I was top **** or claimed to be. Im just proud of my achievments no matter how small they seem to be to others. Im going to Enjoy this new endeavor Very much. Thanks for the encouragment. I think you all took my post the wrong way to be honest. I wasnt calling anyone out, mearly expressing my excitment. I thought people would be a lil more interested in seeing someone else give er a shot whether I do somthing spectacular or crash and burn. This is MY thread and anyone interested is very welcome to provide some input and keep an eye on my project. Please no negativity, It never helps anyone. Happy overclocking. | ||

Noone did anything wrong to you man, calm down. You made it seem like you were the sh!t so you got this type of response, what else could you expect? Do you go to football games saying you are known for your hardhitting and crazy fast running, and not expect people to be skeptical? It's life... Cheer up, and goodluck with your opteron...

| Like a child with a new toy.... I gleefully Hold up my opteron to the sun.... CABNE 0528gpmw I havnt heard anything bad about this stepping as its the same as the fx57 core. Who knew monarch still had some of these babies left. I woulda been happy with anything as long as it wasnt a cabage core. Although buying Cpus OEM is like buying a box of.... never mind Board comes wednesday. Still debating on what video card I should use.... X800gto2 has its promises. | ||

You can always run a RAM divider to push up the FSB even higher...

You should definitely try running a RAM divider. You'll be able to take that FSB even higher, while keeping the RAM at a reasonable speed.

| Ram timings on that board are fun to master. Leaving them at 200 while fsb is 250 yeilds 250. So I might assume that 200 means 1:1, and 166 is 5:6, 133 is 2:3, and so on. I can probably get this rig up higher with a little work, but I am not noticing any spectacular effect from the increased speed as I am not doing any transcoding or anything to tax this box, so it is not needed. Possibly if I load a linux distro on it and not have to suffer with windows limitations the extra speed could be put to use. Actually I lowered the system back to 250fsb yeilding 2.75GHz for now. I'll boost it up when some project comes along. Laterz... | ||

200 isn't a timing. You are referring to the clock speeds.

| Acctually hes right. On my board. and maybe some others. when you set the memory spd speed in the bios to 200 it will mimic the fsb speed exactly. IE 200 mem spd with 250mhz fsb = 250mhz mem clock (500 effectivly) 300fsb with a mem speed of 200 is 300.... But 300 with a mem spd of 166 gives you a memory speed of 250 (perfect for you ddr 4000 owners like me) So yes, In the bios and post screens, the memory speed you set in the bios is acctually a ratio, not an acctual memory speed. They would be accurate if you run a 200mhz fsb though. This usually isnt the case. To help out 280fsb with a mem clock of 180 gives you 250 (again perfect for ddr 4000 owners) | ||
